Full job description

Summary of Responsibilities:

This is not a catalog sales job. Wilcox Bodies builds customized, engineered-to-order truck bodies — service, crane, rail, and flat deck — and no two orders are identical. You will own deals from first conversation to signed order: uncovering what the customer actually needs, translating it into a buildable specification with our Design Team, and quoting it accurately.

There is no complete playbook for this role yet. The right candidate treats that as an opportunity: you learn the product on the shop floor and from the drawings, you build your own sales process, and you document what works so the next hire ramps faster than you did.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Own the full sales cycle — prospecting, discovery, specification development, quoting, closing, and post-order follow-up — for customized truck body solutions.
  • Lead deep discovery with fleets, contractors, and dealers: how the truck will be used, payloads, chassis details, and upfit requirements — before proposing a solution.
  • When a customer arrives with a competitor’s specification or a previous build, lead them to the comparable Wilcox standard model. We sell Wilcox specifications — we do not chase or replicate other manufacturers’ designs.
  • Translate customer requirements into buildable specifications with the Design Team; challenge specs that add cost without adding value to the customer.
  • Prepare accurate quotations and sales orders for engineered-to-order product, including customized options, revisions, and change management.
  • Learn the product independently through shop floor time, drawings, Bills of Materials, and direct conversations with Design and Production. Product mastery here is self-driven — it will not be handed to you.
  • Document your sales process, product knowledge, and lessons learned. You will help build the sales playbook this role currently lacks.
  • Maintain disciplined pipeline, activity, and customer records in HubSpot CRM; forecast honestly.
  • Identify and resolve customer concerns; flag payment, capacity, or specification risks to the appropriate departments early.
  • Represent Wilcox at trade shows, dealer visits, and customer sites across North America.
  • Bring an outside perspective. Respectfully challenge “how we’ve always done it” when there is a better way for the customer — and back it up with evidence.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Self-teacher: a proven history of mastering a technical product without formal training or a handover manual.
  • Comfortable in ambiguity: builds structure where none exists instead of waiting for direction.
  • Technically curious: reads drawings, asks manufacturing questions, and wants to understand how things are built.
  • Consultative seller: diagnoses before prescribing, and is comfortable steering a customer away from a bad-fit spec.
  • Confident redirecting: can move a customer off “what they’ve always bought” and onto the Wilcox equivalent without losing the deal.
  • Resilient through long, complex sales cycles — weeks to months, not same-day closes.
  • Direct communicator who earns credibility with engineers, the shop floor, and experienced customers alike.
  • Constructively persistent: able to push new ideas within an established team without burning bridges.
  • Ability to meet sales and commission targets, work under pressure, and prioritize effectively.

Job Knowledge or Work Experience:

  • 3–5+ years selling customized, engineered-to-order, or technical manufactured product (truck equipment, upfits, trailers, cranes, industrial machinery, or similar) strongly preferred.
  • Note: experience limited to catalog or pre-configured parts sales is not, on its own, sufficient preparation for this role. Candidates must demonstrate they can sell a product that does not exist yet.
  • Experience working directly with engineering or design teams on customer solutions.
  • Knowledge of the commercial truck body or vocational truck industry an asset.
  • CRM discipline; HubSpot experience an asset.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree + or Equivalent Experience.
  • Yellow or Black belt and/or Six Sigma training/designation an asset.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Wears all required PPE when at manufacturing facility.
  • Regular exposure to noise/temperature and/or adverse weather conditions/work outside.
  • Regular working schedule, day shift.

Additional Job Requirements:

  • Possess valid drivers license and have reliable car.
  • Possess valid Passport and be available and able to travel within North America.
  • May be required to work outside of normal working days and hours on occasion
