Full job description

Saltworks Technologies is a leading Canadian cleantech company solving two of the world's most pressing industrial challenges: water sustainability and critical minerals supply. We design and build advanced industrial water treatment and lithium refining systems for some of the world's most recognized companies — in semiconductors, mining, automotive, and industrial processing. Saltworks is a 2025 Fast 50 Company and EY Entrepreneur of the Year award winner.

The role:

Join Saltworks as a Chemical Process Engineer and grow your career in clean technology!

We are seeking Chemical or Process Engineers with 3 + years of professional experience who are eager to build a long-term career in advanced water treatment and lithium recovery. This role offers meaningful responsibility, career growth, travel opportunities, and involvement in cutting-edge product development. No previous water treatment experience is needed! Bring your initiative and aptitude and learn from industry experts dedicated to mentoring future innovators.

Key responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the process design and optimization of lithium recovery and advanced desalination systems, integrating modular water treatment unit operations and developing PFDs, P&IDs, and mass balance models.
  • Support the development and validation of mathematical process models to evaluate performance, optimize designs, and inform scale-up of new technologies.
  • Research, assess, and recommend process equipment, instrumentation, and control strategies based on technical, operational, and economic considerations.
  • Assist in developing control philosophies and process narratives that guide automation, safe operation, and process consistency across systems.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), HAZOPs, and design reviews to ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance throughout project execution.
  • Contribute to commissioning planning, execution, and performance testing activities, helping validate system operation and achieve design targets.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to enhance team standards, workflows, and technical proficiency, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and process excellence.
You will be a great fit if you have:
  • A degree in Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in Process or Chemical Engineering within an industrial setting, including design, testing, or operations, or equivalent professional experience with clear transferable skills.
  • Familiarity with developing P&IDs using AutoCAD P&ID or similar software is beneficial.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Hands-on tooling and troubleshooting skills are considered an asset.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and maintain high-quality work with attention to detail.
  • Quick learner with the ability to adapt to new tasks and challenges effectively.
  • Positive attitude, proactive mindset, and willingness to contribute as needed.

Why join Saltworks?

At Saltworks, you'll collaborate with talented colleagues to solve complex, real-world problems – designing and delivering innovative water treatment and lithium refining systems for some of the world's most recognized companies. Every team member contributes meaningfully, from early-stage development through field deployment.

Saltworks is investing intentionally in artificial intelligence for engineering and technical work. Engineering offers one of the longest runways for AI-driven productivity and automation, and Saltworks aims to be at the forefront of this shift. We provide the training, computational capacity, and practical tools needed for engineers and technical professionals to apply AI meaningfully in their work.

We offer:

  • Competitive compensation package, including medical, dental, vision, RRSP matching, life insurance, AD&D coverage, and an education allowance.
  • Culture built on safety, innovation, diversity, and continuous learning.
  • Collaborative, cross-functional team environment where every member contributes to project outcomes.
  • Regular social activities and company events.

If you would like to join the Saltworks team, please submit your resume (cover letters are not required).

While we sincerely appreciate all applications, only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. All applications are considered confidential.

Kindly, no recruiters.

Salary: $80,000 to $100,000 per year (negotiable based on your experience, qualifications, and internal equity).
