Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Wireless Internet Service Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting wireless internet services for residential and commercial customers. This role performs site assessments, installs customer equipment, resolves service issues, and supports the maintenance of NWIC's wireless network infrastructure.

The successful candidate is technically minded, dependable, and committed to delivering exceptional customer service. They enjoy working outdoors, solving hands-on technical challenges, and working independently while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality. Whether you bring experience in wireless communications or a strong mechanical aptitude with a willingness to learn, you'll play an important role in keeping our customers connected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform site assessments to evaluate line of sight, signal strength, and service feasibility
  • Install, configure, and commission wireless internet equipment at residential and commercial customer locations
  • Install customer-premises equipment including antennas, cabling, routers, and related networking hardware
  • Troubleshoot and resolve customer connectivity, equipment, and network issues
  • Diagnose problems involving wireless links, networking equipment, power supplies, cabling, and customer devices
  • Align and optimize wireless antennas to ensure reliable service performance
  • Test, verify, and document installation quality and signal performance
  • Educate customers on the operation and basic troubleshooting of their internet service and equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance, equipment upgrades, and replacements as required
  • Assist with the installation and maintenance of wireless infrastructure and communications tower sites
  • Maintain accurate service records, installation documentation, and inventory information
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and industry best practices
  • Work independently while maintaining communication with the Field Service Team and office staff
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

This position is primarily field based and requires working in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments, including customer homes, businesses, rooftops, and communications tower sites.

The successful candidate must be able to:

  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions throughout the year
  • Travel regularly to customer sites, tower locations, and rural service areas
  • Safely work from ladders, rooftops, and elevated work areas
  • Occasionally work at heights, including communications towers
  • Lift, carry, and handle tools, ladders, antennas, cable, and equipment that could weigh anywhere between 10-100 lbs utilizing safe lifting practices
  • Work safely around communications and electrical equipment while following established safety procedures
  • Participate in occasional overtime, evening, weekend, and emergency service work when required

Qualifications and Skills

Must Haves:

  • Previous experience in telecommunications, wireless internet, and technical service industry
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot problems logically
  • Comfortable working outdoors and travelling to customers and tower locations
  • Ability to work from ladders and elevated work areas
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to safely lift and carry equipment and work in physically demanding environments
  • Willingness to learn new technologies, equipment, and installation techniques
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record and reliable transportation

Nice to Haves:

Experience in one or more of the following areas is considered an asset:

  • Computer networking experience, including TCP/IP, routers, switches, DHCP, and basic network troubleshooting
  • Working with RF (radio frequency) systems and wireless communications
  • Installing, configuring, or troubleshooting wireless internet systems
  • Two-way radio installation, programming, or troubleshooting experience
  • Working on communications towers or other elevated structures, comfortability climbing 100” + towers and working at those heights
  • Assisting with tower-site rigging and working with ropes and pulleys for rigging work with tower crews
  • Communications tower work, RF systems, antenna installation, or elevated work.
  • Construction, electrical, structured cabling, or related technical trades
