Temporary Full-Time Medical Device Reprocessing Technician

Position posting number: 2608126

Rate of Pay: $25.56 - $26.28 per hour

Union: OPSEU - Service

Schedule: Temporary, Full-Time

Location: Walkerton
Vacancy: Existing

Applications are currently being accepted for a Temporary, Full time Medical Device Reprocessing Technician at the Walkerton site of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre.

This temporary position is not to exceed February 2027. If the position is going to end prior to February 2027 or exceed February 2027 two weeks’ notice will be provided.

The MDRD technician is responsible for collecting and sorting soiled supplies and instruments from hospital departments; reprocessing endoscopes and operating machines such as reprocessor, instrument washers, cart washers and steam autoclaves to clean, reprocess and sterilize supplies for re-use. Assemble of packs of sterile supplies and instruments for delivery to hospital departments and keeping detailed records per department policies.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess a current certification with CSA or MDRAO
  • Successful completion of a certified medical device reprocessing educational program required with recertification every five years is required.
  • Possession of a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and personal vehicle; ability to travel to different sites as required.
  • Recent experience in a medical device reprocessing environment
  • Recent experience in scope reprocessing
  • Knowledge and applied experience of Healthcare MDRD infection control requirements
  • Ability to carry out correct lifting and carrying techniques of items weighing up to 40 lbs
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making and organization skills
  • A thorough knowledge of instrumentation and medical/surgical supplies/equipment as it pertains to all surgical specialties
  • Availability to work all shifts (days, evenings, nights and weekends)
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work load in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as ability to work independently
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment
  • Commitment to continuing education
  • Recent satisfactory attendance and performance records
  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at SBHGC through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
