Position: Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) Technician

Employment Type: Part-Time

Location: Hamilton, ON

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented, certified Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) Technician to join our growing clinical team in Hamilton. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end reprocessing of surgical equipment and specialized ophthalmic micro-instruments, ensuring the highest standards of infection prevention and control (IPAC).

Key Responsibilities

  • Reprocessing & Sterilization: Perform cleaning, decontamination, high-level disinfection, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of ophthalmic and cosmetic surgical instruments in accordance with CSA standards (CAN/CSA-Z314) and CPSO Out-of-Hospital Premises (OHP) guidelines.
  • Micro-Instrument Care: Handle, inspect under magnification, and package delicate ophthalmic micro-instrumentation and surgical handpieces with precision.
  • Documentation & Logs: Maintain meticulous daily quality assurance logs, including physical, chemical, and biological indicator testing (PCDs), leak testing, and equipment maintenance records.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Operate and perform routine maintenance on reprocessing equipment (e.g., steam sterilizers/autoclaves, washer-disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners).
  • IPAC & Compliance: Strict adherence to Public Health Ontario (PHO) Infection Prevention and Control standards, CPSO OHP requirements, and facility policies.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels of reprocessing supplies, biological indicators, chemical integrators, and surgical packaging materials.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Certification: Graduation from a recognized Medical Device Reprocessing program (e.g., MDRAO, CSA, or equivalent accredited college program) required.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Deep understanding of CPSO Out-of-Hospital Premises (OHP) IPAC standards and CSA standards for reprocessing medical devices.
  • Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of hands-on experience in medical device reprocessing. Experience handling delicate ophthalmic or plastic/cosmetic surgical instruments is strongly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating steam sterilizers, ultrasonic units, and monitoring chemical/biological indicators.
  • Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to patient safety and quality assurance.

Working Conditions & Schedule

  • Hours: Part-time (specific days/hours to be coordinated based on clinic surgical scheduling).
  • Physical ability to lift equipment trays, stand for extended periods, and work safely with personal protective equipment (PPE) and cleaning solutions.

Pay: $28.00 per hour
