Full job description

DEW Engineering and Development is a multi-divisional technology company that designs and manufactures innovative products for global clients. DEW provides a wide range of services and products to our military and commercial customers including: design, test and evaluation; prototyping and development; and manufacturing. We currently have an opening for the following position:

Test Engineer

The Test Engineer’s primary function is to ensure assigned designs meet standards and customer specifications.

Responsibilities/Duties:

(Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following)

Design, Testing and Development:

  • Design machines, components, tools, fixtures and equipment or refine existing designs based on analysis and testing results
  • Conduct research into the feasibility, design, operation and performance of components and systems
  • Perform physical tests and simulations to validate design feasibility, safety and functionality
  • Analyze dynamics and vibrations of mechanical systems and structures
  • Develop, maintain and perform comprehensive test plans based on customer requirements and regulatory standards and generate detailed technical reports
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and design teams within each project
  • Conduct “Root Cause Analysis” of infield failures and develop strategies for correction

Communication:

  • Ensure proper documentation of all work, products and relevant activities
  • Organize and document test plans, checklists and reports
  • Provide status reports and present to the Program Manager as required
  • Encourage open communication within team
  • Liaise with clients as required and document all activities

Other:

  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Adhere to all environmental, health and safety regulations and follow the environmental and quality management systems
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience:

  • Experience with test fixture design, instrumentation, calibration, and troubleshooting, as well as failure analysis and corrective actions
  • Experience with test plan development, with the ability to lead root cause analysis and propose design fixes
  • Experience with testing to military and commercial standards including structural, environmental and EMI/EMC
  • Experience with 2D and 3D CAD software (preferably AutoCAD and Inventor)
  • Experience with static and dynamic, linear and non-linear modeling and simulation Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS software preferred)
  • Experience with product and process design
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Excellent technical knowledge of electro-mechanical systems

Education/Professional Certification:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional Engineering License – Ontario

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong understanding of material properties and mechanical behavior
  • Demonstrated detail-oriented ability
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to think proactively/take initiative

Working Conditions & Physical Requirement:

  • This job operates in an office environment
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers
  • Employee may sit for extended periods of time
  • Employee may need to consult in production facility
