S&C has a history of more than 70 years of innovation in Canada. We continue this legacy as a trusted, forward-thinking leader in the power industry. As a team member, you will advance a safer, more reliable, and more resilient electrical grid. Our products help the grid adapt to severe weather and transition to clean energy. We’re big enough to be a respected industry leader but small enough for you to impact our company directly. Our commitment gives you opportunities to impact on and off the job positively.
Join Our Team as a Technical Proposal Specialist/Engineer!
Work arrangement: Hybrid (4 days WFH)
Compensation
At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members and are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $87990 - $116578. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training.
This position may also be eligible for S&C’s annual incentive plan (AIP). AIP amounts are variable and are dependent on both company and individual performance, subject to eligibility criteria. The target bonus percentage for this role is 5% of annual base earnings.
As part of the sales support in the custom Metal-Enclosed Switchgear (MES) department, the Technical Proposal Specialist/Engineer acts as liaison between the sales team and S&C’s design & production teams. The individual will handle all quotes and orders for medium voltage (MV) metal-enclosed switchgear in assigned territories.
Key Responsibilities
- Review customer project specifications and single-line diagrams to determine requirements.
- Review conditions of service documents for power utilities in Canada and/or US, to understand service entrance equipment requirements.
- Prepare proposal sketches showing device arrangement & switchgear dimensional layout customized to site’s electrical and dimensional constraints.
- Participate in customer site visits & meetings to understand constraints required to accurately design switchgear layout.
- Prepare pricing to go along with technical proposals and commercial strategies for each request.
- Prepare detailed design specifications for electrical and mechanical designers to create detailed switchgear drawings.
- Review switchgear drawings and follow-up on implementation of design change requests.
- Provide customers, sales & design with timely responses to technical inquiries using resources within S&C and engineering knowledge.
- Coordinate project requirements from order entry to shipping.
- Participate in virtual & physical customer-witnessed Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
- Frequently visit the production shop to continuously develop & visualize switchgear design concepts.
- Participate in improving current processes using 4-Step Problem Solving methods.
- Provide technical MES proposals with minimal support.
- Liaise directly with end-customers on behalf of sales, when required.
- Work on complex proposals with minimal support.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience working with electrical equipment in either a technical design, commercial customer service, or manufacturing function.
- Understanding of power system protection & control applications for low and/or medium voltage electrical distribution.
- Intermediate knowledge of medium voltage switchgear design
- Technical knowledge and ability to propose S&C’s MES-related products – Vista, System VI & PMH/PME
- Ability to read electrical single-line diagrams.
- Knowledge of electrical standards for electrical equipment – UL, CSA, ANSI, IEEE.
- Experience with MicroStation or other CAD software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- P.Eng is considered an asset.
Physical Effort:
Normal or frequent minor physical effort required for the day-to-day activity in the workplace. May involve standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs and lifting/moving/using objects or equipment up to 20lbs.
Work Environment:
Acceptable working environment with minor or almost no disagreeable or challenging working conditions as part of everyday expected levels (all jobs will occasionally experience undesirable or disagreeable events).
Vacancy Disclosure:
This posting is to fill an existing vacancy within S&C Electric Canada.
Artificial Intelligence Disclosure:
Please note that S&C Electric Canada may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to assist in the screening, assessment, or selection of applicants for this position.
