Full job description

We are seeking an experienced Design Systems Application Engineer to serve as the primary technical interface between the Chief Engineering (CE) team and the Product Release Center (PRC). In this role, you will be responsible for managing system integration, component interfaces, and overall driveline system performance across multiple vehicle programs.

Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, you will lead cross-functional engineering activities, drive system-level design reviews, oversee validation and quality processes, and support cost optimization initiatives to ensure successful product development and launch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead system integration and interface management for driveline systems, including Electric Drive Module (EDM) gearbox components.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Chief Engineering, Product Release Center, Design Release Engineers (DREs), Centers of Excellence (COEs), suppliers, manufacturing, and Development Validation Center (DVC) teams.
  • Coordinate and facilitate hardware system design reviews across multiple engineering organizations.
  • Review and provide technical feedback on Design Release Engineer (DRE) design proposals.
  • Collaborate with Virtual Analysis (CAE) teams to ensure virtual validation activities and DVP scorecards are completed prior to prototype hardware release.
  • Lead Driveline System and Interface DFMEA/DRBFM reviews to develop robust design controls and support Design Verification Plan (DVP) execution.
  • Support Chief Engineer (CE) and Assistant Chief Engineer (ACE) with engineering resource planning, FTE estimates, and ER&D/ED&D cost roll-ups for new, minor, and mid-cycle programs.
  • Review and approve engineering change notices while ensuring checklists, Lessons Learned (LL), and Engineering Best Practices (EBPs) remain current and aligned.
  • Drive Technical Cost Reduction (TCR) and Value Optimization (VO) initiatives in collaboration with PRC, DVC, and Value Optimization teams.
  • Manage and maintain program Lessons Learned documentation and ensure Technical Specialists receive timely updates to Engineering Best Practices.
  • Monitor driveline system validation progress with the Development Validation Center and provide regular status updates to Chief Engineering.
  • Coordinate Design Review Based Test Readiness (DRBTR) meetings, track action items, and determine when GIMS issues should be initiated.
  • Lead cross-functional CQI and GIMS task force activities by establishing priorities, developing action plans, tracking progress, and driving issue resolution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience in automotive driveline, transmission, powertrain, or electric drive system development.
  • Strong knowledge of system integration, design validation, and product development processes.
  • Experience with DFMEA, DRBFM, DVP&R, engineering change management, and product validation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and validation organizations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
  • Experience supporting cost reduction, value optimization, and engineering program execution is highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Electric Drive Modules (EDM) and gearbox systems.
  • Familiarity with automotive development processes and quality tools.
  • Experience working with CAE, Product Release, and Validation organizations.
  • Previous leadership experience managing multiple engineering programs in an OEM or Tier 1 automotive environment.
