MOA Full time

· The Medical Office Assistant acts as liaison between physicians and patients to facilitate patient care and patient flow.

· Typically reports to the Clinic Manager

Duties

· Escorts patients to examination room

· Assesses patients for medical issues by taking history, height, weight, blood pressure

· Provides patients with information about tests and procedures

· Ensures exam rooms are filled to avoid any delays in seeing patients

· Sterilizes equipment; prepares examination rooms for next patient (e.g., prepares trays)

· Pulls and re-files patient charts as required. Places various documents in patient files including lab slips, consult letters and all other correspondence

· May be involved in providing administrative support including reception, appointment scheduling and reminders/confirmations, faxing and copying documents, ordering supplies and maintaining inventory, processing incoming and out-going mail

· Sets up room and instrument trays for procedures as appropriate (e.g. mole removal, PAP, completes, etc.)

· Greets, signs in and escorts patients to exam room

· Gather patient history, takes vitals (height, weight, blood pressure) and conducts any required pre-work as appropriate to patient symptoms, attributes or reason for visit (e.g. glucose test, urinalysis)

· Cleans and restock exam rooms, sterilizes and repackages instrument kits

· Assists physician with minor medical procedures including dressings, suture removal, and PAP tests

· Acts as a liaison between physician office and pharmacies, other health related facilities, other physician’s offices, etc.

· Supports physician in various administrative tasks

Qualifications

· Completion of diploma or certificate program in a related discipline

· 2+ years related experience an asset

· Some training and/or experience in using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR)

· Or equivalent combination of experience
