The Opportunity

We are looking for Access Care Clinic Licensed Practical Nurse to join our Nursing Team at CUPS.

  • Location: Onsite, CUPS - 1001 10 Ave SW, Calgary
  • Reports to: Team Lead, Clinical Services
  • Contract type: Term
  • Schedule: Full-time, Mon to Fri, hours per week
  • Starting salary: $66,497.60 to $69,789

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver episodic health care within the Access Care Clinic (ACC) in accordance with CLPNA standards, CUPS policies, and individual scope of competence
  • Support client intake, triage, and prioritization based on presenting concerns, acuity, and safety considerations
  • Perform focused physical and mental health assessments for acute and episodic presentations and escalate concerns to RN, NP, or physician as appropriate
  • Support clinic flow, including completing pre-assessments and assisting providers during appointments
  • Perform delegated and independent nursing functions including phlebotomy and point-of-care testing
  • Administer medications and treatments within scope and CUPS protocols (e.g., immunizations, injections, wound care)
  • Provide client-centered care to people we serve, including those who use substances, using risk reduction, trauma-informed, and culturally safe approaches
  • Identify opportunistic screening needs (e.g., STBBI, mental health, substance use) and support testing, treatment, and follow-up
  • Provide client education related to health conditions, screening, treatment, risk reduction, and prevention
  • Document all assessments, interventions, and client interactions in Telus CHR in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards
  • Coordinate follow-up for labs, diagnostics, and referrals and support connection to primary care when appropriate, as well as internal and external services
  • Maintain competency in phlebotomy and lab processes in alignment with CUPS and Alberta Precision Laboratories standards
  • Maintain and monitor clinical equipment and report maintenance or repair needs (e.g., ECG machine, oxygen tanks, vaccine fridge)
  • Maintain standards for vaccine storage, handling, and administration in alignment with provincial guidelines
  • Ensure best practices in infection prevention and control are followed
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, team huddles, and program development activities
  • Participate in continuing education and maintain required competencies and contact hours
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards (e.g., WHMIS, OH&S, MSDS)

Employment Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
  • Active registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
  • 3-5 years of acute-care experience.
  • Current First Aid & CPR certification.
  • Phlebotomy certification or equivalent.

What You Bring

  • Experience with TELUS Collaborative Health Record (CHR) EMR is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals/communities experiencing homelessness, poverty, addictions and/or mental health concerns.
  • Demonstration of Trauma Informed Care.
  • Awareness of community resources.
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail required.
  • Able to pursue continuing education opportunities as required for special clinics.
  • Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting, and supporting patients.
  • Time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledgeable regarding the nursing process and its application, including the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
  • A well-developed sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills, including respect and empathy.
  • High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Knowledge of issues related to socio-environmental determinants of health, in particular issues related to mental health and structural marginalization.
  • Ability to respectfully collaborate with an interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to handle, move and lift heavy or awkward equipment and/or individuals
  • Ability to perform all work-related duties in accordance with regulated legislature
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients of various ages, socioeconomic status and ethnic backgrounds
  • Proven critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Ability to be self-directed and able to exercise independent nursing judgment

Work Conditions

  • Exposure to trauma and emotionally complex cases.
  • May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, and lifting (minimum 35lbs)
