Description
The Department of Clinical Neurosciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Fixed Term Full-time position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
The ability to prioritize and determine importance from a large volume of work on a constant basis is essential. The Research Assistant must be capable of evaluating situations where escalating workload may lead to higher stress levels. Travel is required to the different work sites (various senior's homes in Calgary).
Research Support
- Coordinate scheduling of participants for outpatient research procedures during business hours
- Explain study procedures to participants
- Consent study participants and their family members using informed consent procedures
- Assist in the start-up of various research projects which may include research ethics applications, contract submissions, project account set up
- Administer comprehensive cognitive/neuropsychological and behavioural assessments with scoring and analysis of test results
- Input neuropsychological test scores and other research data into databases
- Monitor and maintain the integrity of data records, data entry, and database management and analysis related to the study
- Travel to off-site locations and as such, requirement to travel and work at different sites
- Obtain, handle, and store biomarker samples
Administrative Support
- Provide general office duties including typing, distribution of memos and announcements, photocopying, and mailing and faxing
- Provide administrative support as required
- Proofread, create and assist in the editing process of spreadsheets and other documents for members within the unit
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree or diploma or equivalent work experience is required
- A degree in neuroscience, health sciences, psychology, neuropsychology or biological sciences is an asset
- Minimum 2 years of related experience; previous experience in human subject research is an asset
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are required
- Demonstrate strong computer skills as well as the ability to multi-task
- Proficient working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, specifically Word and Excel, is required
- Strong written and oral communication skills are required; English fluency is essential
- Ability to time manage and determine priorities
- Phlebotomy and biosample handling experience is an asset
- Experience with administration of neuropsychological testing or management of neuropsychological test data, particularly in older populations, is an asset
- Experience and knowledge of post-secondary institution software and organizational structure is an asset
- Statistical skills are an asset
- Full working knowledge of safety regulations and government legislation is an asset
