Position Location: Ottawa, ON

Title: Communicative Disorders Assistant (Audiology)

Employment Status: Full-time

Salary: $56,000 - $65,000 annually *based on experience*

Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm

The Opportunity

We’re seeking an empathetic, detail-oriented Communicative Disorders Assistant - Audiology (CDA) to join our growing team. Working closely alongside both our front desk team and registered Audiologist. You will play an integral role in delivering exceptional care, building patient trust, and shaping the future of our practice.

Role Overview

As a CDA, you will play a vital role in ensuring patient success and daily clinic workflow. You will support clinicals operations by assisting walk-in patients, performing basic diagnostic support, troubleshooting hearing technology, and helping patients navigate their accessories and smartphone connectivity. Most importantly, you will ensure every patient feels valued, supported, and well-cared for from the moment they walk through our doors.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Graduate diploma or post-graduate certificate from an accredited Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) program.
  • Professional Membership: Active membership in good standing with the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC).

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Clinical Background: 1–3 years of proven clinical experience in an audiology, hearing healthcare, or dispensing setting.
  • Diagnostic & Clinical Support: Hands-on experience performing otoscopy, hearing screenings, pure-tone audiometry, tympanometry, and earmold impressions under direct audiologist supervision.
  • Technical Aptitude: Proven skill in hearing aid care—including electroacoustic checks, minor physical repairs, device cleanings, and transferring fitting programming settings into repaired devices via software (e.g., NOAH, manufacturer platforms).
  • Patient & Tech Education: Strong ability to guide patients through hearing aid use, proper maintenance, accessory pairing, assistive listening devices (ALDs), and smartphone Bluetooth app connectivity.
  • Communication & Empathy: Exceptional interpersonal skills with a patient-centred, empathetic approach suitable for working with clients of all ages and their families.
  • Administrative Competency: Comfortable assisting with appointment scheduling, answering patient inquiries, processing payments, and accurately updating Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in compliance with clinic policies and privacy standards.

Core Responsibilities

  • Walk-In & Patient Support: Greet walk-in clients, assess their immediate device needs, and perform basic troubleshooting, cleanings, or minor hearing aid repairs.
  • Clinical Assisting: Perform otoscopic examinations for wax buildup, assist audiologists with testing equipment preparation, and conduct pure-tone audiometry and tympanometry under supervision.
  • Patient Orientation & Training: Educate clients on device maintenance, cleanings, and digital connectivity (smartphones, TV streamers, remote mics, and ALDs).
  • Technical Maintenance: Transfer existing fitting parameters into manufacturer-repaired devices, manage custom equipment maintenance, and assist with taking quality earmold impressions.
  • Administrative & Team Support: Support the front office team by scheduling appointments, answering patient inquiries, handling payments, and keeping patient files updated in compliance with clinic privacy standards.
