Position Overview

ONYX Engineering is seeking an Experienced Industrial Panel Builder / Electrician to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will lead the fabrication, installation, and checkout of industrial control systems, both in-house and at customer sites. You will work independently under minimal supervision while mentoring and directing junior team members and helpers.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Fabrication & Installation: Procure, build, wire, install, and perform checkout procedures on electrical control systems based on schematic drawings and bill of materials.
  • On-Site Operations: Execute and supervise electrical installation and startup projects at customer facilities.
  • Team Work & Mentoring: help Direct, track, and review the work of Electrical Helpers. Assist in setting and maintaining panel building and wiring standards.
  • Facility & Equipment Upkeep: Ensure shop tools and fabrication equipment are properly maintained; assist with receiving parts, inventory shelf management, and general facility upkeep.
  • Quotation Support: Assist engineering and management teams with labor and material estimates for control panel builds.

Education and Experience

  • Experience: Proven experience with a minimum of 5 years in industrial electrical panel building, control system wiring, and field installations. +7-10 years preferred.
  • Licensing & Education: High school diploma or equivalent; licensed Electrician or registered Journeyman preferred (or eligible).
  • Equipment/Machinery Use: Cutting, Grinding, Drilling, Tapping, operation of Forklift and rigging also an asset.
  • Technical Skills: Hands-on wiring, fabrication, panel assembly, testing, and adherence to industry standards. Strong proficiency in reading electrical schematics, working knowledge of control systems/components, and basic PC skills.
  • Tools: Must own and maintain a personal set of hand tools adequate for industrial electrical panel assembly.
  • Leadership & Independence: Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal guidance, manage self-directed tasks, and direct junior staff effectively.

Additional Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation and professional representation of Onyx Engineering.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites throughout Canada, the United States, Mexico, and internationally.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • licensed Electrician or registered Journeyman preferred (or eligible) equivalent would be considered an asset.
