You will work with a variety of structural materials, collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams, support field reviews and construction-stage deliverables, and contribute to high-quality project delivery across a diverse building portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Structural Design & Project Delivery
- Prepare detailed structural engineering designs from concept through tender and construction for commercial, recreational, municipal, industrial, and residential building projects.
- Design with a variety of structural materials, including mass timber, light-frame wood, masonry, concrete, and steel.
- Assemble, review, and coordinate structural deliverables in collaboration with other team members.
- Complete assessments and prepare reports for various buildings and structures.
- Create and leverage custom spreadsheets to support design and project delivery.
Multidisciplinary Coordination
- Review and coordinate deliverables with architectural, civil, landscape, process, mechanical, electrical, contractor, and supplier teams as required.
- Participate actively in project meetings and contribute to coordinated project delivery.
- Collaborate with, advise, and assist team members across other groups and offices.
Construction Administration & Quality
- Support construction administration objectives, including field reviews, follow-up reporting, submittal reviews, shop drawing reviews, and responses to construction queries.
- Observe and maintain quality assurance practices and documentation standards across all projects.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.
What You Bring
- Registered as a P.Eng.
- 6+ years of experience in the design of building structural systems within the building construction industry.
- Preferred experience in a consulting engineering environment.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with clients, consultant team members, contractors, and internal disciplines to deliver projects successfully.
- Strong understanding of structural design principles, structural theory, and risk assessment related to field-level design decisions.
- Knowledge and application of the National Building Code of Canada and Canadian design standards.
- Preferred knowledge of structural design as it applies to wood, steel, and reinforced concrete.
- Working knowledge of Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
- Familiarity with structural analysis software such as SAP2000, SAFE, S-Frame, ETABS, WoodWorks Sizer, or similar tools.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- A collaborative, detail-oriented approach and genuine interest in continued learning, technical growth, and multidisciplinary project delivery.
