Full job description

The Engineering Lead at Rimrock Banff plays a vital role in maintaining and elevating the hotel’s infrastructure and technical performance, ensuring every system functions seamlessly to support guest comfort and operational excellence.
Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, this role blends hands-on technical expertise, team leadership, and operational precision to deliver safe, efficient, and reliable building systems across the resort.

Start Date: June 2026
Salary $80,000 per year
Contract: Full Time, Permanent

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee daily operation and maintenance of all mechanical systems including HVAC, boilers, refrigeration, pumps, and related process equipment.
  • Oversee operation and maintenance of the pool and spa facilities, company vehicles, laundry equipment and hotel temperature monitoring and control systems.
  • Perform duties in alignment with 5th Class Power Engineer requirements and provincial regulations, including ‘hands-on’ work.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze equipment performance data; monitor trends and proactively respond to anomalies.
  • Maintain and update detailed logbooks, process documentation, and compliance records.
  • Conduct and audit scheduled equipment and machine checks, ensuring adherence to safety and maintenance protocols.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide direction, coaching, and mentorship to the Engineering team.
  • Support onboarding and skills development to ensure team competence and consistency in performance.
  • Lead by example, fostering a culture of accountability, precision, and safety.

Planning & Coordination

  • Develop, review, revise and implement preventative maintenance plans and schedules.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities and shutdowns with hotel operations to minimize guest impact.
  • Oversee contractors on-site, ensuring work is completed to Rimrock and regulatory standards.
  • Manage spare parts inventory, procurement, and maintenance budget tracking in collaboration with the Director of Engineering.
  • Lead small-scale projects and assist in capital project implementation as required.

Compliance & Safety

  • Update and maintain all documentation required by federal, provincial, and municipal regulations.
  • Ensure safety programs, procedures, and training are actively upheld and continuously improved.
  • Participate in all required health and safety meetings, training, and audits.

Qualifications

What You Bring

  • Valid 4th Class Power Engineer certification or 5th Class Power Engineering with Millwright or Plumbing Trade Certification.
  • 3–5 years of progressive experience in engineering or maintenance leadership within a hotel, resort, or institutional environment.
  • Strong understanding of building systems, HVAC, boilers, refrigeration, and related process equipment.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor a small technical team with a focus on training and guidance.
  • Excellent computer and communication skills; collect, compile, analyze and produce data-driven recommendations and reports.
  • Highly analytical mindset with a commitment to safety, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Comfortable working in a structured, fast-paced environment with limited delegation and close follow-up.

Bonus if You Bring

  • Previous experience in a luxury hotel or large resort setting.
  • Pool Operator Certification
  • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Experience leading small capital or retrofit projects.
  • Strong organizational discipline and problem-solving ability with a solutions-focused mindset.

Physical Demands

  • This role involves both office and field work, with frequent standing, walking, climbing, and use of tools and equipment.
  • Requires occasional lifting or moving of items up to 23kg (50lbs).
  • Must be able to work in various environmental conditions including mechanical rooms, rooftops, and outdoor spaces in varying temperatures.
  • Regular exposure to noise, vibration, and confined spaces.
  • Shift work, including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations, may be required.
