Engineer In Training

Job Purpose:

The Engineer in Training is responsible for the design of new, and review of existing, cranes, lifting devices, and various other construction, mining, port, and manufacturing equipment. The Engineer in Training will work alongside and take direction from engineering team members to complete specific projects.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Gain field experience for inspection and engineering of cranes, lift equipment, and other equipment typically inspected by Kova
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics
  • Research and analyze customer design proposals and specifications to evaluate the feasibility and requirements of designs or applications
  • Investigate equipment failures and malfunctions to diagnose faulty machinery and operations, and make recommendations
  • Offer sound and reasonable solutions for engineering problems
  • Assist drafting and design personnel in developing the structural and mechanical design of cranes, equipment, and structures
  • Maintain project database by writing and entering data, and completing backups
  • Design all manner of lift equipment and associated machinery
  • Assess structural capacity of in-service equipment by applying engineering fundamentals
  • Learn and become familiar with Kova’s policies, inspection, and safety procedures
  • Further personal knowledge by completing courses and receiving certifications related to visual and non-destructive testing (CGSB, CWB, AWS etc.)

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science or Graduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Engineering
  • Eligibility for membership with EGBC
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license

Salary: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year depending on experience
