Job Summary
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Mechanical Designer to join our engineering team. This position works closely with the Engineering, Production, and Project Managers throughout the project lifecycle and requires knowledge of Mechanical Design using SolidWorks. Occasional travel to various project sites, vendors and other client related sites. Attention to detail in model and assembly creation and manufacturing drawings is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare conceptual and detailed mechanical models and drawings using SolidWorks with supporting calculations to achieve project milestones
  • Perform detailed review of part and assembly drawings and BOMs
  • Ability to work within the SolidWorks PDM design workflow
  • Use measuring equipment for reverse engineering
  • Participates in design review meetings with Engineering, Production, and Project Managers
  • Maintain thorough documentation in accordance with ISO standards and practices
  • Work with manufacturing teams to provide solutions to manufacturing challenges
  • Apply fundamental engineering principles throughout the design process
  • Create technical documents and manuals
  • Participate in individual or team projects to enhance the quality and efficiency of duties
  • Support Field Millwrights during on site commissioning and annual maintenance
  • Create renderings and animations for marketing purposes

Requirements

  • Proven ability to analyze and solve complex technical problems with innovative solutions
  • Strong ability in 3D CAD applications and creation of production detailed drawings
  • Professional design experience dealing with complex mechanical assemblies
  • Proven creative skills having developed innovative creative designs that have positively impacted the bottom line
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Demonstrated understanding of the full implications of design and manufacturing processing in terms of cost effectiveness and practicality
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills; able to effectively delivery training and/or ideas to audiences
  • Ability to travel to the USA;
  • Strong customer service relationships; takes pride in delivering high quality work;
  • Highly self-motivated and self-directed; productive within a team environment;
  • Excellent listening and analytical skills, with keen attention to detail;
  • Proven problem-solving abilities;
  • Takes an organized and enthusiastic approach to work;
  • Able to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in high-pressure, results-oriented environment;
  • Aptitude for following detailed, step-by-step instructions and management direction;
  • Willingness to grow with position as role evolves;
  • Must possess a valid G driver’s license and Passport;
  • Bilingual, English/French (Asset).

Relevant Experience

  • 2 years relevant experience in the field of machinery design or in a related area
  • Knowledge of the Hydro Electric industry, an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA), optional beneficial experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), optional beneficial experience
  • Digital/hydraulic governors, PLC based systems, SCADA systems, Digital Excitation systems, power transformers and switchgear, optional beneficial experience
  • SolidWorks API programming, CNC programming, optional beneficial experience
  • Large Rotating Equipment design, optional beneficial experience
  • Millwrighting Experience, Faro or Leica Laser Tracker Experience, optional beneficial experience
  • Casting, Forging, or Large Weldment Production Experience, optional beneficial experience
  • SR&ED program and reporting, optional beneficial experience

Education Required

  • Post-secondary diploma in Electro Mechanical Technologist or equivalent
  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering, an asset
  • Professional Engineer Certificate in Canadian Province, an asset

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $35.00-$55.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
