Full job description
About Alamos Gold Inc.: Alamos Gold is a Canadian-based gold producer with a long-term track record of creating value for all stakeholders through solid financial performance, low-cost production growth, and a company-wide commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship. We currently operate three mines – two in Canada and one in Mexico – and we have a strong portfolio of development stage projects, including the Lynn Lake Project and Island Gold Phase 3+ Expansion in Canada, and Puerto Del Aire Project in Mexico. Alamos also has an early-stage exploration project in Canada, the Qiqavik Gold Project. Our core values of safety, teamwork, environmental sustainability, integrity, and commitment allow our more than 1,900 dedicated team members to thrive in their careers and to create a lasting legacy that benefits all Alamos stakeholders.
About Island Gold Mine: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold Mine is one of Canada’s highest grade and lowest cost gold mines. With over 550 team members, the underground operation is located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Through ongoing exploration success, Island Gold’s Mineral Reserves and Resources have continued to grow in size and quality. This has supported a multi-phase expansion of the operation, driving production higher, costs lower, and strong free cash flow growth. If you are willing to be part of a team that is dedicated to growth, high performance and a culture of safety and accountability, we would like to hear from you!
The Phase 3+ Expansion of Island Gold to a production rate of 2,400 tpd from the current rate of approximately 1,200 tpd will involve various infrastructure investments. These include the development of a shaft and related facilities, paste backfill plant, mine water treatment facilities, an expansion of the process plant and tailings facility, and power supply upgrades. Following the completion of the shaft in 2025, the operation will transition from trucking to skipping ore and waste to surface through the new shaft infrastructure, driving production higher and unit costs significantly lower.
The successful candidate will have well rounded experience with leading owner’s engineering teams, managing consultants, and technical expertise in mine shafts, shaft hoisting systems, and material handling. Experience in managing contractors, procurement, shaft sinking, surface and underground construction, and commissioning are also important criteria.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the work of the Alamos team of engineers for the shaft project.
- Provide mentorship, guidance and clear goals and objectives for the Alamos engineering team.
- Ensure that engineering work is completed and adequately reviewed by the relevant stakeholders in line with the project budget and schedule.
- Work effectively with a peer cross shift in the role in order to ensure continuous progression of the work scope.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineers, project managers, contractors, and vendors, to develop project plans and execute project deliverables.
- Ensure that the engineering design is aligned with the project budget and performance expectations.
- Development of comprehensive, clear, specific scopes of work and other relevant procurement documents.
- Work closely with contractors to ensure requests for information (RFIs) are quickly addressed and closed.
- Work closely with the construction team and consultant engineering team to mitigate design and constructability issues.
- Participation in the development of requests for proposals and contractor selection.
- Foster a culture of safety, innovation, and collaboration within the engineering team, promoting best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements relevant to engineering projects, and integrate new knowledge into project planning and execution.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline relevant to the role description.
- 15 years of progressive engineering, project management and construction experience in the mining industry.
- The individual should have demonstrated leadership ability, a high level of energy, self-motivation, and strong organizational skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with site and corporate personnel.
- Computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation, scheduling and spreadsheet applications.
This position is based on remote working on a schedule of 4 days on and 3 days off with requirements to be at the Island Gold site on a requirement basis throughout the project. Flights are available from the GTA, Sudbury and Rouyn-Noranda, QC.
Alamos Gold Inc. (the “Company”) is committed to creating and maintaining an accessible environment for all third parties, and will provide accommodation where required, in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (the “Act”). The Company is committed to excellence in serving all third parties including people with disabilities and will do so by preventing and removing barriers to accessibility and meeting the requirements under the Act in a timely fashion.
We sincerely appreciate the interest of all applicants however; only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
