Research Coordinator I – RADIS Lab AI Research Program

RADIS Lab & Neurovascular Research | St. Michael's Hospital

About the Lab

The RADIS lab at St. Michael's Hospital is a global leader in Endovascular Neurosurgery, applying cutting-edge technology, including robotics, artificial intelligence, and international clinical trials, to vascular brain disease. Notable firsts include the world's first robotic brain aneurysm treatment (2019) and first neuro-dedicated intravascular OCT imaging (2022). The lab is based in the RADIS simulation lab and the Li Ka-shing Knowledge Institute (LKSKI).

Role Summary

We are seeking a Research Coordinator I to lead coordination of our AI research program. The RADIS lab uses AI to improve surgical safety through procedural annotation and by developing algorithms for pre-surgical planning, peri-procedural guidance, and robotics automation. The RC I manages day-to-day project coordination, data integrity, REB submissions, master research agreements, contracts, stakeholder communication, and supports grant and manuscript activities.

Key Responsibilities

AI & Research (40%)

Coordinate AI projects; liaise with engineers, clinicians, and external stakeholders.

Manage and oversee data acquisition systems (Blackbox, Storz, and Caster), including data capture configuration and storage management.

Perform annotations for AI algorithm development as required.

Conduct quantitative and qualitative data collection, cleaning, coding, and analysis.

Contribute to manuscripts, abstracts, posters, reports, and grant applications.

Support participant recruitment, screening, and coordination.

Troubleshoot logistical and technical obstacles; develop workflows and project tools (Gantt charts, etc.).

Administrative (50%)

Maintain study records, data entry, and quality assurance per hospital and privacy regulations.

Design source documents: templates, tracking files, forms, and guidance documents.

Organize meetings, facilitate communications with internal and external stakeholders.

Manage lab equipment and storage (e.g., cameras, microphones, routers, hard drives, etc.).

Create training materials and e-learning content as needed.

Team & Project Guidance (10%)

May train and delegate tasks to Research Assistants, students, and casual staff.

May assist with protocol development, SOP curation, onboarding, conflict resolution, and quality review of submitted work.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree + 2 years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree an asset.

Required

Project coordination and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.

Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database software; video conferencing (Zoom, Teams).

Familiarity with project management software (Teamworks, MS Project, etc.).

Attention to detail, self-motivated, and able to work independently and collaboratively.

Compliance with patient/employee confidentiality and safety standards.

Strong Assets

Working knowledge of AI, machine learning, and computer science concepts.

Experience with Python or R for data processing, analysis, visualization, or ML research.

Background in computer science, biomedical engineering, data science, or related field.

Ability to translate clinical/research requirements into clear technical deliverables for engineers and data scientists.

Experience with reference managers (EndNote, Mendeley), statistical software (SPSS, R/RStudio), or survey tools (REDCap, Qualtrics).

Health Canada Division 5, TCPS CORE 2, or Good Clinical Practice certification (completable within first 2 weeks).

Experience with technical or plain language writing.
