  • This position requires a Canadian citizenship or work permit and practical work experience in Canadian waters - especially the St. Lawrence Seaway. Resumes without this experience will not be accepted.

St. Lawrence Cruise Lines Inc. is seeking applicants for the position of First Mate for a Kingston-based overnight cruise ship on 4, 5, 6 and 7 night voyages to Montreal, Ottawa and Quebec City. The Canadian Empress is a 64-passenger small ship rated over 60 tons.

This position is for the 2026 cruise season which runs from May to October. The ideal candidate will be available for full-time hours aboard the vessel on a cruise-on cruise-off basis. Candidates must have Transport Canada certification and experience on like-sized vessels. This is a working Mate’s position and some physical duties will be required.

Certifications Required:
- Master 150GT / Chief Mate 150GT
- Marine First Aid
- Valid Marine Medical

The Mate is responsible for the following:
- Assist the Captain with bridge duties
- Deckhand supervision and direction
- Lead on all dockings, departures and locking
- Debarkation and Boarding
- Participate in work detail
- Passenger safety drills and first aid
- Inspections: Rooms, Corridors & Spaces
- Good passenger relations

Work Periods:
- Full time, Seasonal (May-October)
- 11+ hours per day (on average)
- 4, 5, 6 and 7 night cruises

Wages and Compensation:
- Salary commensurate with experience and certification
- Transportation to/from ports provided (with food allowance)
- Meals and accommodation provided while cruising
