Full job description

The Opportunity:

As part of Maple Leaf Foods’ Maintenance Team, the individual will be responsible for maintaining and servicing equipment used in the facility for the daily production of our products. In doing so, they will support safe plant operations, uphold a safe working environment for all team members, and ensure equipment and processes align with our commitment to animal welfare standards.

Our Millwright rate is $46.81/hour, with an additional premium of $0.70/hour for the night shift.

What You’ll Bring:

  • The successful candidate will be results-oriented, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and have the ability to develop positive working relationships with all employees.
  • Red Seal Millwright Certification (required)
  • Must have own hand tools
  • Strong knowledge of plant and equipment operations
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and solve mechanical issues in a fast-paced environment
  • Good mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and plan daily tasks with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable working both independently and in a team-based environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Production, Maintenance, and cross-functional teams
  • Willingness and ability to work overnight shifts
  • Availability for weekend overtime as production demands require
  • Physically capable of handling heavy equipment (in excess of 25 kg)
  • Poultry or food production experience is considered an asset

A Snapshot of Some of the Exciting Things You Will Lead and Do:

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and install processing equipment to ensure efficient and timely resolution of mechanical issues, with a working knowledge of electrical systems
  • Perform preventative maintenance and complete work orders, accurately tracking labour, parts, and inventory within the plant’s computerized maintenance system (SAP)
  • Apply strong mechanical knowledge—including power transmission, pneumatics, and hydraulics—to diagnose issues and implement effective corrective actions
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics to support troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment improvements
  • Perform machining and fabrication work to support equipment repairs and upgrades
  • Conduct welding repairs and fabrication of equipment components in compliance with food safety standards
  • Respond to oral, written, and electronic work requests in a timely and efficient manner
  • Communicate daily repair activities and equipment status with Maintenance, Production, and cross-functional teams
  • Maintain accurate records, including notes, labour hours, and parts usage in SAP
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety, Food Safety, HACCP, WHMIS, MSDS, BRC, and Company policies and procedures
