About Mad Barn

Mad Barn is a Canadian equine nutrition and health company dedicated to helping horse owners, professionals, and veterinarians make informed decisions about equine care. We manufacture and distribute a growing range of equine supplements and nutrition products, supported by a strong commitment to product quality, evidence-based formulation, education, and continuous improvement.

As our manufacturing operations continue to grow, we are investing in the systems, processes, and leadership needed to support that growth while maintaining high standards for quality, product safety, and regulatory compliance.

The Role

Mad Barn is seeking an experienced Director of QA and Compliance to lead quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and quality systems across our manufacturing operations.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership role with a strong focus on systems implementation and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will be responsible for strengthening and managing the quality framework across a mid-sized manufacturing facility, ensuring regulatory requirements are translated into practical, effective processes that are consistently followed.

We are looking for an experienced quality leader who has successfully implemented and managed quality systems in a regulated manufacturing environment and who is comfortable working closely with both plant leadership and the executive team.

The ideal candidate combines deep regulatory and technical knowledge with strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. They will be confident establishing clear standards, driving accountability, and building a strong culture of quality across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Health Canada VHP requirements and applicable CFIA regulations for animal feeds and supplements
  • Lead the implementation, management, and continuous improvement of quality systems across manufacturing operations
  • Develop and oversee QMS, including non-conformances, document control, change control, label control, manufacturing and validation processes
  • Oversee incoming materials qualification, sampling, testing, approval, and release requirements
  • Manage supplier qualification, supplier quality documentation, and ongoing supplier performance
  • Oversee product complaint investigations, trending, escalation, and corrective actions
  • Establish and maintain finished product review, release, hold, rejection, and disposition procedures
  • Lead regulatory review of product labels, claims, ingredients, packaging, and related documentation, with a strong emphasis on label compliance
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of FeedAssure, HACCP, and other applicable quality or feed safety programs
  • Establish quality metrics and reporting for senior leadership, including CAPAs, complaints, deviations, audit findings, and regulatory risks
  • Partner with manufacturing, operations, procurement, product development, and other teams to embed quality requirements into day-to-day processes
  • Build a strong culture of quality, accountability, and adherence to established procedures across the organization
  • Advise executive leadership on regulatory requirements, compliance risks, quality priorities, and required corrective actions

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in quality assurance, regulatory compliance, or quality systems within a regulated manufacturing environment
  • Expert knowledge of Canadian Veterinary Health Product requirements and strong knowledge of applicable CFIA regulations
  • Significant experience with regulatory label and claims review
  • Animal feed, animal supplement, veterinary health product, nutraceutical, food, or related manufacturing experience strongly preferred
  • Experience implementing or maintaining FeedAssure and/or HACCP programs is considered a strong asset
  • Demonstrated ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical, scalable operating procedures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to influence across functions and levels of seniority
  • Experience working directly with and reporting to C-suite or executive leadership
  • Proven ability to establish clear standards, drive accountability, and maintain effective quality systems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to take meaningful ownership of quality and compliance within a growing manufacturing organization.

The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening systems, improving operational consistency, and ensuring quality and regulatory requirements are integrated into business and manufacturing decisions.

We are looking for a quality leader who is comfortable building and improving systems, working closely with teams across the organization, and creating a culture where quality is understood as a shared responsibility.

This role is well suited to someone who enjoys combining strategic leadership with hands-on systems implementation and who wants to make a lasting impact on how quality is managed across a growing operation.
