About Jewellery & Industrial Metals


A wealth of applications. Umicore is an expert in developing products and processes based on precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum. These materials enable our customers to make fine jewellery, coins, high-purity glass and industrial catalysts. Umicore also enables the sustainable and responsible sourcing of these metals and provides closed-loop recycling for our customers. To make the most of these materials we cannot stand still. We need to find new ways to do things, discover new solutions and develop new processes. Which is where you come in.


What you will be doing


  • Responsible for troubleshooting issues and provide solution for maintenance or outside contractors.
  • Understanding all processes and Equipment at Sweeps, Melting furnaces, Au refining, Waste water treatment and Assay methods, provide adequate support for area in need.
  • Provide support in processing different type of refining material.
  • Run Trials
  • Manage the metal balance of refining processes
  • Manage process improvement projects for refining and sweeps processing.
  • Manage Quotes/CAPEX and commissioning of new process equipment.
  • Customer Complains - start internal or externa investigation base on complaint and provide feed back to customer service.
  • EHS – take part in any Process Risk Assessment and HAZOP (Hazards and Operability study).
  • Cover key roles in Refining departments like Team lead at 951, some assayers, Chemical operator.
  • Follow all EHS, IMS and other company rules and wear all required PPE.
  • Wear, and ensure all reports wear, all required personal protective equipment and that all health, safety and environmental rules are followed at all times. Support the initiatives of the JHSC. Ensure all equipment is operated in accordance with external certificates, regulations and guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned

Who we are looking for


  • Bachelor of Chemistry or Chemical engineering
  • 3-4 years in chemical manufacturing
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Strong mechanical skills
  • Health and safety training is an asset
  • Ability to work safely in a hot environment and meet deadlines
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written) – able to do regular reporting.
  • Understanding of pumps
  • Effective both when working on their own and when part of a team.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision once an assignment is fully understood.
  • Results oriented and focused on deadlines.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn
  • Understanding of WHMIS, MSDS etc.
  • This is a hands on, results oriented position, so comfort on a shop floor production/processing environment is key.
  • This is a new position.
  • AI is not being used to screen, evaluate or select candidates.
  • The starting rate for this position $66,800
