Manufacturing Engineer

Description:

The Manufacturing Engineer drives continuous improvement by developing and optimizing manufacturing processes. This role focuses on improving efficiency, reducing downtime, enhancing layouts and material flow, and driving practical, hands-on improvements to support high-quality, cost-effective manufacturing. Key responsibilities include improving workflows, reducing equipment and process downtime, driving manufacturability of new products, designing fixtures, and working with cross-functional teams to improve overall operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Process Engineering & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes to enhance quality, reduce costs, and increase efficiency
  • Troubleshoot production issues to reduce downtime and waste
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives and process updates
  • Analyze production data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
  • Create and maintain work instructions and SOPs
  • Work closely with design, production, and quality teams to ensure manufacturability of products

2. Layout & Workflow Optimization

  • Improve workstation and plant layouts to enhance material flow and efficiency
  • Drive line balancing and workflow improvements
  • Implement stations/layout changes that improve safety and productivity

3. New Product Introduction & Manufacturability

  • Collaborate with design, quality, and production teams to ensure smooth transition of new products into manufacturing
  • Provide input during design reviews to enhance manufacturability
  • Develop layout and efficient processes for new product introductions

4. Lean Manufacturing & Operational Excellence

  • Lead and drive Lean initiatives and kaizen events to eliminate waste and improve performance
  • Apply tools such as 5S and value stream mapping
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering
  • Experience in process improvement, layout optimization, and fixture/tooling design
  • Strong understanding of manufacturability and production efficiency principles
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and material flow
  • Familiarity with Lean tools (Kaizen, 5S, value stream mapping)
  • Ability to create and maintain SOPs and work instructions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Self-motivated with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Commitment to safety and quality

  • Experience improving manufacturability, quality, and ergonomics through tooling and fixture design
