Commercial Manager (Sales and Marketing)
Location: Head Office – Courtenay, BC
Start Date: As soon as possible
Where Work Meets the Wild West Coast
At Nootka Marine Adventures, we take pride in providing exceptional service and unforgettable experiences for our guests. We operate three premier fishing resorts on the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island: Moutcha Bay Resort, Nootka Sound Resort, and Newton Cove Resort.
We are dedicated to preserving the timeless art of sport fishing while creating premier guest experiences that connect people to the natural beauty of British Columbia’s west coast.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially driven leader to shape the future growth of one of British Columbia’s premier fishing resort operators.
The Commercial Manager is responsible for leading the company’s revenue-generating functions, including sales, marketing, reservations, group business, and commercial partnerships. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role will drive revenue growth, occupancy performance, lead conversion, business development, trade show strategy, and commercial performance across all resort operations.
The successful candidate will combine strategic thinking with hands-on leadership, using data, market insights, and strong commercial instincts to identify opportunities, improve performance, and support long-term business growth. This role leads a multi-functional team and plays a key role in shaping the guest journey from initial inquiry through booking and arrival.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute commercial strategies that support revenue growth, occupancy targets, and business objectives.
- Lead sales, marketing, reservations, group business, and lead generation activities across all resort operations.
- Analyze sales, conversion, occupancy, and market data to identify opportunities, trends, and risks.
- Drive group business development, strategic partnerships, travel trade relationships, and new revenue opportunities.
- Oversee marketing campaigns, trade show participation, digital advertising, and lead generation initiatives.
- Lead pricing, forecasting, occupancy planning, and revenue optimization strategies.
- Oversee CRM systems, sales pipelines, booking conversion processes, and reservations workflows.
- Manage departmental budgets, revenue reporting, performance metrics, and commercial targets.
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing commercial team while fostering a strong sales and service culture.
- Represent Nootka Marine Adventures at industry events, trade shows, partner meetings, and networking opportunities.
Qualifications
Required
- University degree in Commerce, Finance, Marketing, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in sales, marketing, hospitality, tourism, or commercial operations.
- Proven success leading revenue-generating teams and achieving sales, occupancy, or revenue targets.
- Strong understanding of sales strategy, lead conversion, reservations operations, and guest service standards.
- Experience with CRM systems, reporting tools, performance analysis, and commercial planning.
- Experience leveraging, or a strong interest in leveraging, Artificial Intelligence tools to support commercial strategy and business performance.
- Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
- Understanding of remote resort operations and the unique dynamics of seasonal tourism businesses.
Preferred
- Experience in resort, tourism, adventure travel, hospitality, or destination-based businesses.
- Experience with group sales, travel trade partnerships, and tourism marketing initiatives.
- Experience with West Coast saltwater fishing.
What We Expect From You
We are seeking a leader who:
· Thinks strategically and makes decisions based on data, insights, and commercial opportunities.
· Demonstrates an entrepreneurial mindset and is energized by finding new ways to grow the business.
· Takes ownership of commercial performance and is accountable for achieving sales, revenue, occupancy, and conversion targets.
· Leads by example and is comfortable operating in a lean, fast-paced environment.
· Builds strong relationships with guests, partners, industry stakeholders, and team members.
· Communicates effectively, coaches others, and fosters a positive team culture.
· Is adaptable, proactive, and focused on solutions rather than obstacles.
If you enjoy connecting with people, learning new skills, and being part of a team that feels like family, you’ll thrive here!
What You Can Expect From Us
· Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
· An opportunity to play a key leadership role in a growing tourism business.
· A collaborative and supportive leadership team.
· Opportunities to shape strategy, influence growth, and drive meaningful results.
· Travel opportunities through trade shows, industry events, and partner development activities.
· Access to some of the most spectacular fishing destinations and wilderness experiences on the West Coast
