Full job description

We are seeking an experienced and highly disciplined General Manager to bring structure, standards, and consistent leadership to a busy transport and warehousing terminal. This role is responsible for establishing clear operating processes, improving accountability, mentoring supervisors and frontline teams, and driving operational performance across transport, and warehouse functions. The ideal candidate brings strong transport expertise, hands-on leadership capability, and the discipline to build a safe, compliant, KPI-driven operation in an environment that requires clearer processes and consistent day-to-day execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily transport and warehouse operations to ensure efficiency, service reliability, and cost control.
  • Establish, track, and report on KPIs across transport and warehouse operations, including on-time delivery, cost per route, warehouse throughput, safety performance, SOP compliance, and service reliability.
  • Drive performance improvement by identifying gaps, using data to address issues, setting clear action plans, and holding teams accountable for measurable results.
  • Implement clear operating standards, SOPs, job descriptions, and accountability structures to bring consistency and discipline to terminal operations.
  • Lead and develop team members by setting clear expectations, reinforcing job responsibilities, coaching performance, and creating a culture of accountability.
  • Provide hands-on mentorship to supervisors and frontline leaders, helping them develop the skills, confidence, and structure needed to manage teams effectively.
  • Drive continuous improvement by standardizing workflows, improving planning routines, and strengthening process discipline across the terminal.
  • Maintain full compliance with NSC, Hours of Service, OH&S, WHMIS, and all applicable transport and workplace regulations.
  • Lead warehouse safety programs, hazard assessments, equipment inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Manage budgets, resource allocation, maintenance planning, and operational cost controls.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to support service excellence and business growth.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of leadership experience in transport, logistics, or supply chain operations.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation compliance, warehouse safety standards, and regulatory governance.
  • Experience building structure, process discipline, and accountability in operations that have lacked formal procedures, clear job expectations, or consistent leadership routines.
  • Proven ability to manage KPIs and lead high‑volume, fast‑paced operations.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, operational reporting tools, and the ability to learn and use transportation or warehouse management systems.
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to prepare clear reports, communicate performance results, and present operational plans or improvement initiatives to leadership and team members.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams; multi‑site experience is an asset.

What Success Looks Like

You lead with discipline, consistency, and a hands-on approach to developing people and processes. You bring order to unclear environments by setting standards, defining expectations, coaching leaders, and holding teams accountable. Success in this role means building a safer, more structured, and more reliable terminal operation where employees understand their responsibilities and performance can be measured, managed, and improved.
