Job Summary

The Machinist is responsible for completing precision centrifuge repairs and manufacturing custom parts using raw materials, engine lathes, CNC milling machines, and engineering blueprints. This role requires a highly experienced, quality-driven individual capable of performing varied and custom machining tasks with accuracy to support production goals in accordance with company policies and procedures.

. Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and set-up all manual machines, including milling, lathes and drill press
  • Operate and set-up vertical CNC mill using conversational programming
  • Read prints and charts
  • Limited weld, braze and use of burning torch.
  • Do any type of layout work and sketch prints.
  • Do any millwork
  • Familiar with fused and non-fused coatings, i.e., know which coatings to apply with metals and preparation procedures for each type of coating, spray and weld.
  • Capable of using measuring tools to determine minute measurements, including, but not limited to Vernier calipers and micrometers.

Duties

  • Set up, operate, and maintain CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, and other machining equipment such as CNC programming with Fanuc controls.
  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models using SolidWorks and other CAD software to ensure accurate manufacturing.
  • Use precision measuring tools like calipers to verify dimensions and tolerances during production.
  • Perform manual machining tasks utilizing hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and assembly techniques as needed.
  • Conduct routine inspections of machined parts for quality assurance and adherence to specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following safety protocols and best practices in lean manufacturing.
  • Assist with setup adjustments, troubleshooting machine issues, and optimizing machining processes for efficiency.
  • Operate forklifts or other material handling equipment when necessary to move raw materials or finished products.

Qualifications & Requirements:

· Requires at least five years of on-the-job experience in a machine shop operating manual equipment.

· Journeyman Red Seal Machinist ticket.

· Demonstrated mechanical ability.

· Communication skills with Supervisor, Engineer, and peers.

· Machining and Shop Safety knowledge.

· Must have the knowledge and skill to perform all duties required in each machine department.

· Must be experienced in operating hydraulic press.

· Able to do limited maintenance on shop equipment.

· Able to work speedily without hesitation caused by lack of all-around shop experience.

· Able to work in all areas of production, such as machining and chucking thin wall parts, shafts and conveyors.

· Able to hand grind all cutting tools for lathe work, including drill bits, end mills, etc.

· Able to consistently mike within .001” tolerances.

· Must understand machining procedures for heat-treat items.

· Must own measuring tools and basic hand tools

· Ability to Operate overhead crane, miscellaneous types of cranes and forklift.
