Full job description

Estate Carpenter / Property Maintenance Carpenter

Rafat General Contractor Inc.

Build. Create. Maintain. Every Day is Different.

Rafat General Contractor Inc. is looking for an experienced, versatile carpenter to become a key member of our estate maintenance and construction team.

This is not your typical carpentry position.

You'll work on a unique 100+ acre private estate that combines residential, agricultural, commercial, and industrial facilities. The property includes custom homes, barns, stables, animal enclosures, mechanic shops, offices, garages, storage buildings, fencing, trails, ponds, and extensive grounds. It also serves as one of our major operational yards, housing our fleet maintenance facilities and acting as the staging location for our winter maintenance trucks and heavy equipment.

In addition to maintaining the estate, several large custom modern homes are currently under construction, providing opportunities to assist with new residential projects and high-quality craftsmanship.

If you enjoy building, repairing, improving, and taking pride in your work, this position offers endless variety.

Also, the estate is home to a variety of unique animals and custom-built habitats, requiring ongoing construction, maintenance, fencing, shelters, and improvements. Applicants should be comfortable working around animals and enjoy an outdoor, rural environment.

What You'll Be Doing

Every week is different. Projects may include:

  • Rough carpentry and structural framing
  • Finish carpentry and detailed woodworking
  • Building retaining walls using timber, reclaimed lumber, stone, or logs
  • Constructing and repairing barns, stables, workshops, sheds, and storage buildings
  • Building fences, gates, decks, pergolas, gazebos, and outdoor structures
  • Repairing siding, doors, windows, flooring, drywall, trim, and general building components
  • Renovating cottages, estate buildings, and support facilities
  • Assisting with construction and finishing of custom luxury homes
  • Building animal shelters, paddocks, and unique estate features
  • Performing general property improvements and creative custom projects
  • Working with the owner to design and build one-of-a-kind projects throughout the property

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 5 years of carpentry experience
  • Strong rough carpentry skills
  • Finish carpentry experience is a major asset
  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors throughout the year
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • High attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship
  • Valid G Driver's Licence
  • Reliable and dependable

Additional Skills Considered an Asset

Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:

  • Timber framing
  • Heavy timber construction
  • Concrete forming
  • Cabinet making
  • Welding or metal fabrication
  • Landscaping and hardscaping
  • Equipment operation
  • General property maintenance
  • Basic plumbing or electrical repairs
  • Roofing and siding
  • Small engine or equipment repairs

Why Join Us?

  • Full-time, year-round employment
  • Competitive compensation based on experience
  • Work on unique projects that few carpenters ever experience
  • Opportunity to help construct and maintain luxury custom homes and a one-of-a-kind private estate
  • Long-term career with an established construction company
  • A workplace where craftsmanship, creativity, and initiative are appreciated

If you're the kind of carpenter who enjoys variety, takes ownership of projects, and likes creating things that will be appreciated for years to come, we'd love to hear from you.

Please submit your resume. Photos of previous carpentry or woodworking projects are encouraged.
