About Us

Glen Hill Terrace is a not-for-profit long-term care home dedicated to providing compassionate, resident-centred care grounded in dignity, respect, and excellence. We are currently seeking a Director of Care (DOC) to lead our Nursing Department and Resident Care Services.

About the Role

Reporting to the Administrator, the Director of Care is accountable for the overall management, leadership, and performance of the Nursing Department. Through effective use of resources, strong clinical leadership, and collaboration with interdisciplinary partners, the DOC ensures the delivery of high-quality resident care in compliance with legislative, regulatory, and Glen Hill Terrace standards.

The DOC is expected to lead in alignment with Glen Hill Terrace’s core values, demonstrate customer service excellence, and promote resident safety at all times.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Operational Leadership

  • Plan, coordinate, direct, and evaluate all nursing and resident care services
  • Ensure resident care is evidence-based, resident-centred, and appropriately documented
  • Establish and maintain effective quality, risk management, and compliance systems
  • Participate in strategic planning, accreditation, and corporate initiatives
  • Liaise with physicians, consultants, nurse specialists, and interdisciplinary team members

Human Resources & Labour Relations

  • Lead recruitment, orientation, performance management, and staff development for the Nursing Department
  • Establish and monitor staffing patterns in accordance with budgetary parameters and collective agreements
  • Foster positive labour relations and effective working relationships with union representatives

Financial & Funding Accountability

  • Monitor expenditures, explain variances, and implement corrective actions as required
  • Oversee documentation processes to support base funding and access to additional funding initiatives

Resident, Family & Community Relations

  • Promote a culture of respectful, responsive, and compassionate care
  • Address resident and family concerns promptly and effectively
  • Maintain positive relationships with community partners and service providers

Regulatory Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure full compliance with Ministry of Long-Term Care legislation and standards
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and monitor clinical indicators
  • Support inspection readiness and sustained compliance

Occupational Health & Safety

  • Promote a strong culture of workplace health and safety
  • Ensure staff compliance with OHSA requirements, PPE usage, and emergency preparedness

Qualifications & Experience

  • Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Bachelor of Nursing Science or equivalent post-diploma education
  • Minimum three (3) years of front-line management experience in a Long-Term Care setting
  • Strong clinical knowledge, particularly in gerontological nursing practice
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and team-building skills
  • Experience working within an interdisciplinary team
  • Sound knowledge of MLTC legislation, regulations, and funding processes
  • Proficiency with computerized documentation systems, Microsoft Word, email, and internet applications

The successful candidate will be required to meet the following conditions prior to commencement of employment and throughout their employment, as applicable:

  • A current Police Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening, satisfactory to the Employer
  • Compliance with Glen Hill Terrace Christian Homes’ Coronavirus Immunization Policy
  • Completion of a two-step Tuberculosis (TB) test, in accordance with long-term care legislative and public health requirements
