MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT

The Medical Office Assistant works as part of the primary care team and is responsible for supporting clinic flow and providing efficient, safe care to our clients. Responsibilities include rooming clients, taking medical history and vitals, stocking rooms, supporting clinicians with procedures, performing injections and venipuncture under the supervision of nursing, updating and maintaining the client’s electronic medical record, providing basic needs to clients, and preparing samples for pickup and transport to laboratory partners. This position operates across our Argyle and Huron sites, serving a diverse client population with a range of health and social support needs.

THE COMPENSATION PACKAGE

  • A starting salary range of $41,000 - $44,000
  • A Psychologically Safe and Inclusive Workplace
  • 100% employer-paid health & dental package, including up to $2,000/benefit year for mental health, $1,500 for massage therapy
  • Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
  • Paid sick and personal time, plus vacation time starting at 3 weeks

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-4 years of experience in a medical clinic or laboratory setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of veins/anatomy and laboratory tests (specimen requirements, specific requisitions)
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Occupational Health & Safety and Infection Prevention and Control principles
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds through an inclusive and anti-oppressive lens

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Proficiency in venipuncture an asset
  • Awareness and understanding of the social determinants of health
  • Ability to practice from social justice, trauma and violence informed care, and harm reduction frameworks
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (Telus Practice Solutions Suite currently in use)
  • French and other language skills are considered an asset in supporting the communities we serve
