Full job description

# Bilingual Logistics Operations Coordinator (English/Mandarin)

**Sunshine Logistics Inc.** | Richmond, BC | Full-time, in-office, permanent

Sunshine Logistics is an established Vancouver-based ocean freight forwarder and CBSA-licensed customs brokerage specializing in the China–Canada corridor with a growing book of Canadian importers shipping FCL and LCL ocean freight from China to Canada. We're hiring two operations coordinators to grow our Richmond team.

## About the role

You'll own the full lifecycle of import shipments — from booking through customs clearance to delivery — for a portfolio of Canadian importers. This is a hands-on operations role with real file ownership as you ramp.

You'll correspond daily with our overseas agents in China in written Mandarin, and with Canadian importers in written English. Strong written fluency in both languages is essential.

You'll ramp into an active book of files through your first 30 days, with structured handoff and mentor support.

## What you'll do day to day

- Manage a portfolio of active import shipments across the full lifecycle
- File CBSA customs entries through our brokerage software and the CARM client portal; resolve exam holds (CIE/CCI) with CBSA, exam facilities, and carriers
- Correspond daily with overseas agents in written Mandarin and Canadian importers in written English
- Coordinate HBL/MBL releases, demurrage and detention disputes, and drayage coordination with our trucking providers

## What we're looking for

- **Required: Fluent written and spoken Mandarin and English, equally weighted.** Daily written Mandarin correspondence with overseas agents and daily written English correspondence with Canadian importers are both core to the role. Both written fluencies are non-negotiable and will be tested.
- 1+ years of freight forwarding, customs brokerage, or ocean import operations experience
- Working knowledge of Canadian customs processes (CARM, CBSA exams, HS classification)
- CCS designation, or actively pursuing it (we'll support your studies)
- Owns files end-to-end and follows through without prompting
- Comfortable using AI tools daily and adopting new tools as we deploy them — this is core to how we work, not optional
- Legally entitled to work in Canada (no sponsorship available)

## Nice to have

- Experience with SIMA/anti-dumping screening, surtax compliance, or PGA/OGD permit handling
- LCL/co-loader workflow experience
- Familiarity with Vancouver-area carrier and terminal operations

## Why join us

- Direct mentorship from ownership and experienced operators
- Real file ownership — not a back-office processing seat
- A modern, growing AI-assisted toolstack
- Growth path into senior operator and team lead roles
- Bilingual workplace where Mandarin is core to the work, not a side benefit
- Family-business culture, in-office collaboration in Richmond

## Compensation and benefits

- $19.00 – $25.00 per hour, depending on experience ($39,520 – $52,000 annualized) — *negotiable based on qualifications*
- Extended health and dental
- CCS designation reimbursement
- 90-day structured onboarding with mentorship
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Reports to ownership

## To apply

Send your resume (English) and a brief note on your bilingual experience and customs background. We review applications on a rolling basis and aim to respond within 5 business days.

Our process: application review → practical exercise (~30 minutes, covering a shipment scenario, customs classification, and a bilingual email task) → interview with ownership → offer.

*Sunshine Logistics is an equal opportunity employer. The Mandarin language requirement is a bona fide occupational requirement based on daily written correspondence with our Mandarin-speaking overseas agents in China.*

Pay: $39,520.00-$52,000.00 per year

Application question(s):

  • This role requires daily written correspondence in both Mandarin and English with overseas agents and Canadian importers. Are you fluent in written Mandarin AND written English, including writing professional business emails in both languages?
  • This role uses AI tools daily — including AI-assisted research, drafting, and classification — as part of standard workflow. Briefly describe how you currently use AI tools in your work or personal life, and your view on adopting new AI tools.
  • How many years of freight forwarding, customs brokerage, or ocean import operations experience do you have?

Language:

  • Mandarin (required)
