The Local and Long-Haul Transport Driver operates various trucks, such as semi-automated tractor, semi-trailers and bobtail trucks, to transport cylinders, liquid products, or tube trailers to branches, plants, and customers.
What you will enjoy doing*
- In this role, you will be responsible for transporting tube trailers, cylinders, liquid containers, industrial non-gas products, and occasionally bulk products between branches and production facilities
- You will load and unload products as needed, ensuring cylinder counts, product types, and quantities accurately match shipping documentation
- Completing shipping manifests and other transportation-related documentation will be an important part of the role
- You will maintain accurate electronic trip records, fuel tickets, and other required reports to support compliance and operational requirements
- The role involves using handheld electronic devices to process deliveries and manage transportation activities efficiently
- You will conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, documenting any defects or deficiencies and communicating them to the appropriate team members
- Identifying vehicle maintenance and repair needs is an important responsibility, helping ensure equipment remains safe and roadworthy
- Flexibility is key, as the role may require adapting to varying schedules and operational demands to support business needs
What makes you great*
- The role is suited for someone with a high school diploma or equivalent experience, along with a strong commitment to safety and customer service
- For commercial vehicle operators, a minimum of 24 months of commercial driving experience is required, including recent experience operating equipment similar in size and type to the vehicles used in this role
- A strong safety record is essential, with no significant preventable vehicle incidents within the past 24 months
- You will be expected to successfully complete a road test that demonstrates safe, defensive driving skills and maintain the required medical fitness certification for commercial drivers
- Experience working with or delivering compressed gases or similar products would be considered a strong asset
- Mechanical aptitude is important, along with a good understanding of vehicle maintenance and safe operating practices
- A valid Class 1 driver's license with air brake endorsement is required, as well as knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations and WHMIS requirements
- Comfort using technology is important, including onboard computer systems and smartphones to support daily operations
- The role requires a solid understanding of compressed gases and safe gas-handling practices, with a strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance
- A willingness to learn and be trained on additional equipment, such as forklifts, will help ensure success in the role
