Position: Maintenance Technician

Contract Type: Full-Time; 39 hrs/week

Monday to Thursday: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM & Friday:

7:30 AM - 2:45 PM

Duration of Position: Starts Immediately and is subject to a 6-month probationary period

Location: Maintenance Department (working at multiple locations throughout the district)

ABOUT THE POSITION: Grasslands Public Schools is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician to join our skilled maintenance team. This role requires a conscientious, responsible, and hard-working individual who can perform general building, grounds, and equipment maintenance across multiple school sites.

This position will start Immediately and is subject to a 6-month probationary period.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform general repairs (carpentry, painting, playground equipment, cabinetry, safety equipment, desks, etc.)
  • Perform grounds maintenance, including mowing and snow removal
  • Monitor inventory levels and advise the Manager of Facilities and Maintenance
  • Purchase, transport, and store materials efficiently
  • Monitor inventory levels and advise the Manager of Facilities and Maintenance

  • Maintain preventative maintenance systems and recommend corrective measures

  • Assist other trades and supervise seasonal or casual staff as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary diploma in a relevant field preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a related area preferred
  • Experience in carpentry, electrical, mechanical, painting, and grounds maintenance considered an asset
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract

  • Operate hand and power tools safely, assemble/disassemble materials and scaffolding
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision
  • Demonstrate a cooperative mindset
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills

  • Prioritize tasks, multitask effectively, and follow Grasslands and safety protocols (OH&S)
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Work in crowded and loud environments

  • Perform physically demanding tasks including climbing and balancing; stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching; lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling; and prolonged sitting and standing
  • Able to tolerate and work

    around dust and fumes

  • Conduct oneself in a responsible and respectful manner while working in and around a school environment, in the community, and with third parties, that is in alignment with division's policies, guidelines, and values
  • Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of Grasslands Public Schools’ mission and values
