Who We Are

Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.

The Library's Digitization Centre provides consultation and expertise on best practices in digitization procedures, and services include scanning and processing in preparation for deposit in a research repository or database. The Centre offers consultations on selection of file format, file-naming conventions, directory structure of complex (multi-file) content, and techniques for digitizing oversize and fragile source material. The Centre also supports the Centre for Accessible Learning by preparing course reading material for SFU students with print disability.

About the Role

The Library Assistants in the Digitization Centre will collaborate with the Digitization Librarian, other library and SFU employees on a variety of digitization tasks and other related duties consistent with position title and classification. This will include: Scanning, digitizing and formatting digital, printed and other physical materials; checking the quality and accuracy of digitized work; copying and moving digital files; adding and updating file names to reflect the contents of a digital object, reflect new information, improve organization and to follow appropriate naming conventions; using written and verbal instruction to use the tools and technology available to digitize objects and materials; following and executing all relevant library and Centre’s policies, procedures and guidelines; and maintaining record inventories.

The ideal candidate should have the ability to pay close attention to detail, follow detailed instructions, accomplish an assigned task according to instructions independently, and cooperate with other team members and supervisor.
