Inclusive Child Care (ICC) Coach
Temporary, Full-time, 35.00 hours per week
About Kids Included: Kids Included has been paving pathways to inclusion for children with disabilities and their families since 1982. We were founded in 1982 as GRIT (Getting Ready for Inclusion Today) and we have been a leader in inclusive early learning for more than 40 years. As Canada’s hub for inclusive early child care and education, our professional knowledge is informed by research and industry best practices to achieve the highest possible outcomes for children, families, educators and community partners.
Inclusive Child Care (ICC) builds upon the skills, knowledge, and confidence of early childhood educators to provide high quality, inclusive learning environments for all children across Alberta. Utilizing the evidence-based Pyramid Model, ICC provides educators and directors with professional development and ongoing coaching to develop capacity to increase the participation and engagement of all children.
Position Overview: As an ICC Coach, you will stay abreast of research and best practices in early childhood and special education to confidently collaborate with community partners and multidisciplinary team members to support educator capacity and child needs. You will apply principles of adult learning, such as coaching, facilitating professional learning and reflective practice to support the implementation of Pyramid Model practices. This role will include supporting programs and families in navigating community supports and advocating for children with disabilities and extra support needs. You will observe, inquire and reflect upon program’s beliefs, values and philosophies to guide coaching sessions. Candidates must be comfortable using technology to collect data, document coaching visits and goal progress, and engage in meetings or remote consultations.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Degree or diploma in a related field (e.g., Early Childhood Development, Education, Disability Studies, Social Work) required.
- Minimum five (5) years of leadership experience in Early Learning and Child Care, including coaching, mentorship, supervisory, or director roles.
- Strong working knowledge of inclusive early learning best practice and the Pyramid Model, including evidence-based coaching to support implementation and reflective practice.
- Demonstrated understanding of adult learning principles and professional coaching approaches.
- Commitment to staying current with research, evidence-based practice, and emerging trends in early childhood development and inclusion.
- Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Demonstrated ability to build respectful, strengths-based relationships with educators, leaders, families, and community partners.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, manage multiple assignments, and meet established deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Office 365, and cloud-based applications.
- Flexibility to adjust work hours based on program and service delivery needs.
- Ability to travel to rural communities as required, including driving to program locations within Edmonton and North Central Regions.
- Access to a reliable vehicle with required business insurance and a personal cell phone.
- Satisfactory Police Information with Vulnerable Sector and Children’s Intervention Record Check.
- Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
Compensation & Benefits: This position offers a competitive hourly rate of $29.90-$46.30, reflecting the scope of responsibility and depth of experience required. The role is structured at 35.00 hours per week with three (3) weeks of paid vacation to start. In addition, Kids Included provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes extended health, dental, and disability coverage, along with employer‑matched RSP contributions up to 6%. Employees also have access to the TELUS Health Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Temporary end date is March 31, 2027, with possibility of extension.
Physical, Emotional and Psychological Demands include:
The role involves prolonged periods of sitting at a desk while working on a computer and requires regular use of hands and fingers to operate a keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other standard office equipment. The ability to read and view documents, screens, and small text for extended periods is essential. Candidates may be required to occasionally lift or move office supplies or files weighing up to 10 pounds. Intermittent walking or standing is required during site visits or when performing tasks such as making copies. The position also requires the ability to get down to a child’s level to model strategies, which may involve bending, sitting on the floor, and repetitive movements. Driving between sites, including occasional out-of-town travel, is required.
Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism (EDIAR) Commitment:
Kids Included is committed to becoming an equitable, inclusive, anti-racist, and decolonized organization at the individual, organization, and systems level. We are intentionally working to create safe and brave spaces that acknowledge, honour, and respect the lived experience of every person and community. Kids Included is committed to embedding EDIAR work in all that we do. We strive to be authentic and genuine, and committed to action; creating an organization that more accurately reflects the communities we serve and responds more effectively to diverse needs. We strongly encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, including Indigenous peoples, Black and racialized individuals, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ2S+ communities, and those with diverse lived experiences.
