Full job description

Are you an experienced gardener who is looking for an amazing and flexible opportunity in the Comox Valley? We are looking for someone who is comfortable and confident with plant identification, pruning, weeding, planting/transplanting, and general garden maintenance in the Pacific Northwest.

By experienced, we mean that you are able to go to a client's garden and perform required work with support from our team, and often with other gardeners, but with minimal supervision. We will provide all the required equipment (including a vehicle), but you know what needs to be done and are able to perform the work with a smile and positive attitude for our wonderful clients.

We recognize that work-life balance is important, and as such for experienced candidates are able to build a work schedule that fits with your lifestyle. We are looking for someone who is able to garden Tuesdays and Fridays 8:00-4:30pm over the summer months with the possibility of adjusting that schedule come September.

We are able to provide wellness benefits to employees on a sliding scale depending on how many hours you work, as well as a bonus/profit sharing plan.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain client gardens to a professional standard.
  • Perform ongoing maintenance such as weeding, pruning, edging, mulching, raking, etc.
  • Plant and nurture new trees, flowers, and various plants.
  • Work with hand tools and basic light machinery such as leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, and whipper snippers.
  • Keep all garden equipment and machinery in good working order.
  • Drive work trucks & crew to various job sites.
  • Maintain clean gardens by clearing litter from the garden and grounds.
  • Provide guidance to management on matters related to the gardens.
  • Ensure a safe environment for staff and clients by adhering to WorkSafeBC safety and health regulations.
  • Other related duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Ability to handle a range of horticultural machinery and powered hand tools.
  • Knowledge of plants and gardening techniques.
  • A willingness to learn, grow and adapt to a variety of situations.
  • Friendly personality with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to teamwork.
  • Solid understanding of health and safety rules and legislation.
  • BC drivers license Class 5 with a clean driving record.
  • Physically fit; able to kneel, bend and lift in a variety of weather conditions.
  • A love of working outside with plants and nature.
