Landscaping Construction Team Lead/ Operator
Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Construction Supervisor, the Landscaping Construction Team Lead/Operator directs the work activities of the Landscape Construction personnel, while supporting in the execution of work and is the first line of support for the Division's personnel. The incumbent will organize equipment and labour and ensure all projects are completed safely, on time, on budget and in accordance with the project requirements.
The incumbent will conduct all activities in a manner that supports the mission, vision and values of CILTD, as well as adherence to all established Policies and Procedures.
This full-time hourly position is based on 44 hours weekly. Additional hours may be required in order to meet Company and/or Client requirements including evenings and weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Execution of Landscape Construction projects, assist in the of planning labour requirements, equipment requirements; material deliveries and timing to ensure completion of job(s) within project deadlines;
- Manage safety, quality and productivity of work at sites and/or shop/yard;
- Delegate job tasks to appropriate crew members and assist crew members in the completion of construction projects;
- Understand and complete all grading tasks;
- Operate all types of heavy equipment in a safe and productive manner;
- Read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and specifications to delegate and complete work activities;
- Comply with all company policies and procedures;
- Maintain and enforce standards of cleanliness and organization in assigned trucks, trailers, equipment, job sites, and shop/yard areas;
- Ensure that all work activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner, and that all crew members are in compliance with government and company Personal Protective Equipment ‘PPE’ standards;
- Enforce and work in accordance with all local health and safety laws and regulations at shop/yard and on job sites;
- Report all incidents, damage and near-misses immediately;
- Provide clear and concise direction to crew on a daily basis to achieve the goals of each project;
- Identify potential problems and find creative solutions;
- Complete reports to record issues and work performed; and,
- Other relatable duties as required.
Qualifications
- Grade twelve (12) Diploma or General Educational Diploma ‘GED’ equivalency is required;
- Minimum three (3) years of relatable experience in the Landscape Construction industry is required;
- Minimum three (3) years of relatable experience in a lead/supervisory role is required;
- Minimum three (3) years experience loading and hauling industry relative equipment with truck and trailer combination;
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License, along with a clean five (5) year driver’s abstract is required;
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications;
- Capable of operating required equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner;
- Knowledge of specific materials, methods, tools and equipment required to complete various earthworks/construction projects;
- Knowledge of sod and topsoil installation, paver brick work installation, retaining wall construction, chainlink fence construction;
- Knowledge of tree planting;
- Knowledge and experience of ground excavation using track excavators and skidsteers;
- Previous experience with snow clearing and operating various equipment in completing snow clearing operations;
- Ability to problem solve challenges;
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize job responsibilities in a fast-paced work environment;
- High Attention to detail;
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain working relationships with employees, supervision and clients;
- Experience with using Microsoft office suite applications; and,
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
