The Director, Labour Relations is a senior leader within the People & Culture function, responsible for leading the delivery of labour relations and attendance management programs. Working closely with senior leadership, this role provides subject matter expertise to resolve labour relations issues, ensures consistent application of collective agreements and policies, and leads attendance management programming.
The role contributes to the execution of labour relations and attendance strategies, while driving operational excellence, risk mitigation, and positive union-management relationships
What you will do:
- Lead, develop, and mentor a team of Labour Relations professionals, fostering a high-performance, collaborative, and service-oriented culture
- Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to senior leaders, P&C partners, and operations managers on all labour relations matters
- Collaborate with key stakeholders, including union representatives to foster a constructive labour relations climate
- Ensure the consistent and accurate application of collective agreements within PASS
- Lead grievance management, assist with arbitration hearing preparation and participate in mediation sessions on behalf of PASS
- Contribute to collective bargaining processes through preparation, research, issue analysis, and participation at the bargaining table as required
- Partner with senior P&C leadership and operations management to develop and implement labour relations strategies
- Oversee the attendance management program, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, collective agreement provisions, and organizational policies.
- Monitor, analyze and report on attendance management metrics, trends, and program outcomes.
- Ensure metrics on labour relations activities and outcomes are accurately tracked, monitored and analyzed to provide insights on trends and make recommendations to evolve the company’s labour related management policies and practices
- Set clear objectives, priorities, and performance expectations for direct reports, ensuring alignment with organizational and departmental goals
- Provide coaching, guidance, and subject matter expertise on complex labour relations matters to support employee growth and capability development
- Lead the design and development of education strategies and training to further develop the labour relations skills and knowledge of the operations management team in the areas of attendance management, workplace investigations, progressive discipline, the application of collective agreements and any other labour relations related policy or process.
What you bring to PASS:
- 8-10 years of progressive HR/LR experience, with a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Manager or Senior level leader in a business partnering or labour relations capacity
- A degrees or diploma in Business Administration, Human Resources or a related field
- Designation in HR, such as CPHR is an asset
- Extensive knowledge of CBAs and hands-on experience successfully resolving grievances, preparing for arbitrations and participating in collective bargaining
- Highly effective strategic thinker who anticipates LR challenges and opportunities, assesses organizational impacts, and develops proactive, risk-informed strategies that align with business objectives and foster a positive labour environment
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders while working through complex issues
- Polished communication skills: verbal, written, presentation
- Experience in a complex, multi-union environment an asset
- Able to travel to sites in the Pacific Region when required
- Able to appropriate Federal Clearance/no un-pardoned criminal background
