Contract Lab Technologist / Field Lab Sampling Technician

Location: Fly-In/Fly-Out from Calgary or Edmonton to Foster Creek or Christina Lake
Schedule: 7 days on / 7 days off, Thursday to Wednesday
Hours: 11.43 hours per day, day shifts
Positions Available: Two contract opportunities

We are currently recruiting laboratory professionals to support operations for a major oil and gas company at its Foster Creek and Christina Lake facilities. Candidates may request consideration for one location or both.

Available Positions and Rates

Lab Technologist – Foster Creek

  • T4: $28–$34 per hour
  • Independent Contractor: $34–$42 per hour

Field Lab Sampling Technician – Christina Lake South

  • T4: $27–$33 per hour
  • Independent Contractor: $33–$41 per hour

Higher rates may be considered based on experience.

Position Overview

The successful candidates will collect, test, and analyze oil, gas, and water samples while supporting safe, accurate, and reliable laboratory operations. These hands-on positions require strong attention to detail, practical laboratory experience, and a commitment to safety and data quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine analysis of oil, gas, and water samples using established procedures.
  • Conduct field sampling and sample-collection activities.
  • Enter, verify, and maintain laboratory data and test results.
  • Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Complete and document daily Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities.
  • Ensure testing complies with approved laboratory procedures and applicable standards.
  • Maintain laboratory chemicals, reference standards, consumables, and inventory.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, calibration logs, and supporting documentation.
  • Identify and report safety, environmental, equipment, and process concerns.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot sample-, process-, and instrument-related issues.
  • Participate in continuous-improvement initiatives focused on laboratory efficiency, reliability, and safety.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and laboratory personnel to support facility requirements.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Chemical Laboratory Technology, Chemical Technology, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • At least two years of industrial laboratory experience.
  • Experience conducting routine analytical testing in an industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of laboratory instruments, testing procedures, calibration, and equipment maintenance.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate data.
  • Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.

Preferred Experience

  • Oil sands, SAGD, refinery, petrochemical, or energy-industry laboratory experience.
  • Experience analyzing oil, water, and gas samples.
  • Experience with laboratory QA/QC programs and quality systems.
  • Field sampling and sample-collection experience.
  • Familiarity with ASTM or other recognized laboratory testing standards.

Safety Requirements

These are safety-sensitive, field-based positions. Successful candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Fit-for-work assessment
  • Drug and alcohol testing
  • Driver’s abstract
  • Audiometric testing
  • Valid H2S Alive certification by the first day of work

Flights are provided from Calgary or Edmonton for the fly-in/fly-out rotation.
