Full job description

Hummingbird Foods Inc. (www.hummingbirdfoodscopacking.com) is a SQF-certified co-packing and food manufacturing facility with an operation in Burnaby, BC. We hold SQF, HACCP, CFIA, FDA, and Organic certifications and manufacture a diverse range of sauces, dressings, and condiments for retail and foodservice customers across North America.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are hiring a QC/QA Technician to be our boots-on-the-floor food safety presence during production. Reporting to senior QA leadership, you will execute the daily monitoring program that keeps our SQF certification in good standing — from pre-operational inspection through end-of-shift closeout. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented role where consistency and reliability matter more than anything else.

  • Monday - Friday
  • 6am - 2:30pm
  • $45,000 per annum

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Pre-Operational Inspection

  • Conduct daily pre-op inspection of all production areas before line start
  • Verify sanitation sign-off, pest control status, and equipment condition
  • Confirm allergen changeover and LOTO compliance where applicable
  • Complete and file pre-op checklists; production does not start until pre-op is passed

In-Process Monitoring

  • Monitor CCPs per the HACCP plan
  • Conduct GMP compliance checks (PPE, hygiene, handwashing) throughout the shift
  • Perform environmental monitoring (ATP swabs) on food contact surfaces per schedule
  • Pull and log retain samples for finished goods
  • Execute line clearance procedures between product or allergen changeovers

Documentation & Records

  • Complete all required monitoring logs accurately and on time (CCP logs, calibration logs, swab logs)
  • Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when deviations are identified; escalate as required
  • Maintain calibration records for scales, thermometers, water meter, Brix meter, etc.
  • Ensure traceability records are completed accurately and in real time.
  • Ensure records are audit-ready at all times in support of our SQF program

End-of-Shift & General

  • Conduct final product checks and weight verification before shift close
  • Store retain samples per established protocol
  • Act as the daily escalation point between production and QA leadership for food safety issues
  • Conduct corrective action trainings as required

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Diploma or degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Biology, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on experience in a certified food manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with HACCP principles and GMP requirements
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a methodical, consistent approach to daily tasks
  • Comfortable holding the line on GMP compliance with production staff
  • Strong written communication for accurate record-keeping

Preferred

  • Experience working in a GFSI-certified facility (SQF, BRC, FSSC 22000)
  • Hands-on experience with environmental monitoring programs (ATP, pathogen swabbing)
  • Knowledge of sanitation chemistry and validation procedures
  • Exposure to metal detector operation and CCP monitoring
