Duties
The Chemical Laboratory Technologist will support applied research within the Industrial Decarbonization team at CanmetENERGY-Ottawa. The role involves preparing and conducting laboratory tests, operating, calibrating, and maintaining scientific equipment, collecting and organizing experimental data, and maintaining laboratory records and inventories. The successful candidate will work closely with scientists, engineers, and technical staff on projects related to carbon capture, hydrogen technologies, and industrial decarbonization, while following established laboratory procedures and safety requirements. On-site presence is required.

Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to staff a one-year determinate EG-03 position. A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various language requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

EDUCATION

• A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives. The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are: A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

EXPERIENCE

• Experience in carrying out standard test methods, data collection/compilation, processing, and/or verification in accordance with established procedures, standards, and specifications.
• Experience in calibrating, operating, and/or maintaining laboratory testing equipment.
• Experience in maintaining technical logs, files and records, databases, and inventories.

ASSET EDUCATION

• Completion of post-secondary education with a specialization relevant to the position (e.g., Chemical Technology, Laboratory Technology, Biotechnology).

Preference will be given to veterans first, followed by Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of jobs located in Nunavut or Yukon. For positions located in Nunavut, qualified Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement will be appointed first. For positions located in Yukon, qualified Yukon First Nations will be appointed first, followed by qualified Indigenous persons.
