Full job description

About Inpho

Inpho is a fast-growing startup, focused on developing cutting-edge optoelectronic solutions for next-generation communications, and photonic systems. Our multidisciplinary team is pushing the boundaries of innovation in integrated photonics and semiconductor packaging.

Inpho’s new class of electro-photonic chips is poised to revolutionize and disrupt the optical interconnect market. Utilizing this new class of chips enables existing optical interconnect systems to be built at much lower cost, new architectures to be deployed that provide significantly higher price/performance, and a whole new generation of higher speed interconnect to be built that to date have been impossible.

About the Role

We are seeking a Lab Technician with hands-on experience in a semiconductor photonics cleanroom environment to support the development, testing, and qualification of advanced photonic devices across Reliability, R&D and early manufacturing activities. This role is integral to ensuring product reliability, process integrity, and compliance with quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform safe handling, preparation, loading/unloading, and inspection of wafer, bar, die, Chip-on-Carrier (CoC), and TO-can packages in accordance with cleanroom SOPs and ESD protocols.
  • Support electrical and optical testing of photonic devices, including setup, execution, data capture, and basic troubleshooting under engineering guidance.
  • Execute reliability and environmental stress testing (e.g., HTOL, burn-in, thermal cycling, damp heat), and assist reliability engineers with debug, failure analysis, and root-cause investigations.
  • Identify, document, and report device failures, anomalies, and out-of-spec results with clear traceability and accurate test records.
  • Perform quality inspections to ensure compliance with internal procedures, specifications, and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain cleanroom operations, including tool readiness, contamination control, consumables, fixtures, and equipment upkeep.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of procedures, test methods, inspection criteria, and quality records, support SOP updates and audit readiness.
  • Support equipment calibration tracking, asset inventory management, and continuous improvement initiatives across lab operations, reliability, and quality processes.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Photonics, Semiconductor Technology, Physics, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience working in an optical or photonics cleanroom or laboratory environment.
  • Proven experience handling fragile semiconductors and photonic devices (e.g., wafer, bar, die, CoC, TO-can packages).
  • Experience supporting reliability testing, qualification, or failure analysis activities.
  • Hands-on exposure to electrical and/or optical testing of photonic or optoelectronic devices.
  • Solid understanding of ESD control, cleanroom protocols, and quality / documentation practices.

Soft Skills

  • Strong attention to detail, documentation discipline, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Data-driven and objective; able to think critically and act with purpose.
  • Clear verbal and written communication; collaborates openly across teams.
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in R&D and early manufacturing / pre-production environments.
  • Working knowledge of wire bonding, die attach, and singulation processes.
  • Experience with basic mechanical characterization (e.g., die shear, wire pull, visual inspection).
  • Familiarity with data analysis or test automation (e.g., Python, scripting tools).
  • Exposure to equipment maintenance, calibration systems, or asset management tools.
  • Experience designing or modifying simple fixtures, holders, or adapters (CAD experience a plus).

Why Join Inpho?

  • Be part of a mission-driven startup shaping the future of photonics.
  • Collaborate with top researchers and engineers in a dynamic, innovation-driven environment.
  • · Competitive salary, flexible work environment, and career growth opportunities.
