Pylon Electronics – Radon is a specialized division of Pylon Electronics Inc., dedicated to the manufacturing, sale, and support of advanced Radon monitoring instruments and calibrated Radon gas‑generating sources. Based in Pylon’s Ottawa laboratory, our team brings decades of engineering and manufacturing expertise and is recognized as a leader in scientific and industrial Radon measurement technologies. Our customers include major universities, national laboratories, and multinational corporations.

What we are looking for:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Nuclear Lab Specialist / Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to join our team at our Ottawa location. This is a diverse technical role that combines laboratory operations, radiation safety, equipment maintenance, calibration, product development, regulatory compliance, and customer support.

This position is well suited to someone with a strong technical background who enjoys hands-on laboratory work, troubleshooting equipment, solving problems, and working with both customers and colleagues.

What you will do:

  • Perform daily laboratory operations, including maintaining lab equipment, monitoring laboratory conditions, and troubleshooting or repairing laboratory infrastructure.
  • Design and conduct laboratory experiments and assist with the development and testing of new products.
  • Fabricate radon and thoron generating sources and safely handle, monitor, and dispose of radioactive materials in accordance with established procedures.
  • Calibrate radon monitoring instruments, maintain calibration records, and prepare calibration certificates and supporting documentation.
  • Serve as the Radiation Safety Officer by ensuring compliance with CNSC regulations, maintaining licences and certifications, completing regulatory reporting, and training employees on radiation safety.
  • Coordinate the import and export of radioactive isotopes and sources while maintaining accurate regulatory and safety records.
  • Provide technical product support and training to customers and employees, assist customers in selecting appropriate products, troubleshoot equipment issues, prepare quotations, and represent the company at conferences and product demonstrations.

What you need:

  • 3+ years of experience in a production, industrial, technical, or laboratory environment.
  • A Technology Diploma, Engineering, Science, Chemistry, or related technical/scientific education.
  • Hands-on equipment maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • The ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • The ability and willingness to obtain Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) certification. Training will be provided if required.
  • Eligibility for Controlled Goods & Industrial Security Clearance (Secret Level II).
