Full job description

Reports to the Quality Manager, As a Materials Test Technician you will support hands-on testing and validation activities. The ideal candidate is creative, positive, self-motivated, solution oriented, analytical and can adapt quickly. The role will require you to oversee a variety of testing, document findings during the test, perform routine maintenance and upkeep of test equipment and identify new test equipment opportunities. You will work collaboratively across multiple teams at the company to accomplish the requirements of this position.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports plant or department safety initiatives
  • You will conduct laboratory testing of materials and components with a Universal Testing Machine (UTM) and Digital Image Correlation (DIC) Equipment.
  • Use of Precision Measurement Equipment including Micrometer, Height Gage, Specific Gravity Testing, Caliper, & Hardness Testing, and other lab measurement equipment.
  • You will document through pictures, videos, and written records the tests conducted in the laboratory.
  • You will perform sample preparation, including cutting with band saw, mounting sample, bolt cutters, part cutters, drill press, grinding and polishing.
  • Complete Cut and Etch testing
  • Complete Instron testing

REQUIRED SKILLS/ ABILITIES:

  • Required PPE at all times on the floor, green triangle safety shoes, safety glasses, and proper gloves
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with Universal Testing Machine (Instron preferred), Corrosion Chamber, Grinding/Polishing Equipment, and microscope.
  • Working knowledge of materials fundamentals and testing practices.
  • Ability to work safely in a lab environment
  • Ability to safely use cutting and power tools for sample preparation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School
  • Must be able to read, understand, and successfully follow all requirements of safety, standard work/work instructions and key quality metrics
  • Basic math, reading, writing skills, and communicating in English required
  • Intermediate level MS Office preferred. Basic computer knowledge required.

PHYSICAL/ ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Heavy Lifting (up to 50lbs) with fixtures and totes
  • Repetitive use of hands and wrist.
  • This position requires a moderate to high degree of standing, walking, stair climbing, stooping/squatting, kneeling, reaching, pulling, or pushing.
  • Requires wearing personal protective equipment.
  • Able to crouch, bend, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.
  • Punctual attendance to work is required.
  • Ensure team compliance to safety and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Quality Lab environment: air-conditioned, Universal Testing Machine (UTM), moderate to high noise level, bandsaw, drill press, polisher, part cutter, and bolt cutters
  • Plant/manufacturing environment; concrete floors, metal parts, assembly machinery, welders, presses, forklifts, cranes, variable temperatures, some outside/dock work (all seasons), moderate to high noise level.
  • Moderate to high stress environment, just-in-time manufacturing with rapidly changing customer demands

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Perform other duties as required

NOTE: URSA is a multi-shift operation. Successful application for this job does not entitle an employee to a shift ‘guarantee’. If the business needs change, the incumbent may be required to work on, or transfer to a different shift than the starting shift in this posting
