We are looking for a detail-oriented Gauge Lab Technician to join our team and play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of our measuring and test equipment.
In this role, you will be responsible for the calibration, verification, maintenance, and control of precision measuring equipment. You will maintain accurate calibration records, coordinate internal and external calibration services, support quality audits, and help ensure compliance with company, customer, regulatory, and quality management system requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in calibration, metrology, quality control, machining, or a related technical field who takes pride in accuracy, organization, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Perform calibration, verification, maintenance, and control of measuring and test equipment in accordance with company procedures and applicable standards.
- Maintain accurate calibration records, certificates, and equipment histories using the GageTrak® calibration management system.
- Manage calibration schedules and ensure equipment remains within required calibration intervals.
- Coordinate internal and external calibration services while maintaining traceability to recognized national and international standards.
- Conduct incoming inspections and verification of new, repaired, or returned measuring equipment.
- Investigate out-of-tolerance conditions and support impact assessments, corrective actions, and root cause investigations.
- Maintain equipment inventories and conduct periodic audits of company-owned measuring and test equipment.
- Ensure the proper storage, handling, transportation, and preservation of precision measuring equipment.
- Prepare calibration reports, certificates, and compliance documentation for internal and customer requirements.
- Support the development, review, and continuous improvement of calibration procedures, work instructions, and quality documentation.
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 17025:2017 quality system requirements.
- Provide guidance and training to employees on the proper use, care, and control of measuring and test equipment.
- Maintain records and tracking systems for lifting equipment inspections, certifications, and related compliance requirements.
- Coordinate inspection, calibration, and recertification activities for lifting equipment, load cells, dynamometers, crane scales, and other related devices.
- Verify that lifting equipment certifications are current, accessible, and compliant with regulatory, customer, and company requirements.
- Support the management of lifting equipment registers, inspection schedules, and asset inventories.
- Monitor key performance indicators related to calibration compliance, asset management, and laboratory performance.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and professional work environment in accordance with all company health, safety, and quality policies.
- Travel within Canada and the United States as required to support calibration, inspection, auditing, and asset management activities
Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; a technical diploma or related education is preferred.
- Experience in calibration, metrology, quality control, machining, or a related field is an asset.
- Experience working with precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, torque wrenches, pressure gauges, and similar equipment.
- Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements and calibration laboratory best practices.
- Experience with GageTrak® or similar calibration management software is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized record-keeping systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and calibration procedures.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working in an accredited calibration or testing laboratory.
- Familiarity with measurement uncertainty, calibration standards, and traceability requirements.
- Previous experience in industrial, manufacturing, construction, or field service environments.
- Experience supporting quality audits and maintaining calibration records in compliance with ISO requirements.
- Valid driver's license is required.
- Ability and willingness to travel within Canada and the United States as required.
