Salary: $40,000–$60,000 per year

Position Summary

The General Manager is responsible for the overall success of the café, including daily operations, financial performance, team leadership, customer satisfaction, and maintaining company standards.

This is a hands-on leadership role that requires a balance of strategic thinking and day-to-day operational involvement. The successful candidate will lead by example while fostering a positive and high-performing workplace culture.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperations Management

  • Oversee all daily café operations to ensure smooth and efficient service.
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, beverage quality, cleanliness, and customer experience.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety regulations, and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and guest satisfaction.

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, train, coach, and develop café employees.
  • Lead, motivate, and support the team to achieve operational goals.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and accountable workplace culture.

Scheduling & Workforce Management

  • Prepare and manage employee schedules.
  • Monitor labour costs while maintaining appropriate staffing levels.
  • Approve overtime, vacation requests, and employee leave in accordance with company policies.
  • Address employee concerns professionally and effectively.

Financial & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Monitor sales performance and operating costs.
  • Manage budgets and inventory levels.
  • Process inventory orders and maintain stock accuracy.
  • Complete administrative reports and operational documentation.
  • Participate in achieving store performance goals and KPIs.

Customer Experience

  • Ensure every guest receives friendly, professional service.
  • Handle customer concerns and complaints promptly and effectively.
  • Build strong customer relationships and promote a welcoming café environment.

Floor Leadership

  • Support barista and service operations during peak business periods.
  • Lead by example through active participation in daily operations.
  • Ensure efficient communication between front-of-house and kitchen teams.

QualificationsRequired

  • Minimum 2 years of management experience in hospitality, restaurant, café, or retail operations.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with scheduling, inventory management, and operational planning.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.

Preferred

  • Previous café or coffee industry experience.
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certification.
  • Barista experience.
  • Experience working with POS and inventory management systems.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary is based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit.
