Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and nurturing individual to fill a unique dual role within our school community. This position is split between two critical functions: ensuring the safe and timely transportation of students as a School Bus Driver, and fostering the development of young learners as a Preschool and Before/After School Educator.

The ideal candidate will be a reliable, safety-focused professional with a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and School Bus endorsements, who also possesses a genuine passion for early childhood education. You will be a familiar and trusted face for our students, both on the road and in the classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a school bus on designated routes to and from school, adhering to all scheduled times.

Preschool & Before/After School Educator Duties (Approx. 50% of time):

  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum for preschool-aged children.
  • Supervise and engage children in the Before and After School program, leading structured activities, games, and providing homework assistance.
  • Provide a safe, inclusive, nurturing, and stimulating environment for all children.
  • Assist with daily routines, including meal/snack times, rest periods, and bathroom breaks.
  • Observe and monitor children's play and interactions, fostering social-emotional growth and conflict resolution.
  • Help to maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked classroom environment.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about their child's day and development.
  • Follow all school policies and state licensing requirements for childcare centers.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the bus is in safe operating condition.
  • Enforce student conduct and safety rules on the bus, maintaining a respectful and orderly environment.
  • Maintain accurate records, including mileage, attendance, and incident reports.
  • Ensure the safety of children during boarding and disembarking, including the use of appropriate safety equipment (e.g., crossing arms, stop signs).
  • Maintain a clean and sanitized bus interior.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and transportation dispatchers regarding schedule changes, delays, or student issues.
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as school district policies.

Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
  • Excellent driving record and successful completion of a background check, fingerprinting, and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Previous experience working with preschool or school-aged children in a licensed childcare, preschool, or educational setting.
  • Demonstrated understanding of child development principles.
  • Exceptional patience, reliability, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with young children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to manage behavior in a positive and constructive manner in both a bus and classroom setting.
  • Physical ability to assist children, including lifting up to 40 lbs, bending, and kneeling.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to transition smoothly between two distinct roles.

Work Schedule

  • Morning: Drive assigned bus routes.
  • Mid-Day: Teach in the preschool classroom.
  • Afternoon: Supervise the After School program, followed by driving the afternoon bus routes.
  • Specific hours will be detailed based on route and program schedules.
