GEMINI at Unity Health Toronto is hiring a Scientific & Strategic Writer for a 12‑month part‑time contract. GEMINI is Canada’s largest hospital research data collaborative, producing high‑impact research that informs health system performance, quality improvement, and clinical policy.

The Scientific & Strategic Writer will support GEMINI’s growth and impact by producing high‑quality written materials for scientific, governmental, philanthropic, and collaborative audiences. This role works closely with GEMINI leadership, scientists, data analysts, research program staff, and external partners to develop compelling proposals, strategic documents, progress updates, organizational descriptions, and peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts.

The ideal candidate excels at translating complex scientific findings into clear, engaging, and strategically framed narratives that strengthen funding competitiveness, advance research impact, and support GEMINI’s strategic priorities.

GEMINI is committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti‑racism and seeks an individual who shares and champions these values.

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Writing & Proposal Development

Develop persuasive proposals for government funders, grant agencies, foundations, and other partners.

Write concept notes, letters of intent, cases for support, and strategic narratives that position GEMINI for new collaborations and new funding opportunities.

Produce clear, compelling organizational overviews and value‑proposition materials for prospective collaborators.

Transform executive prompts or strategic direction into polished, audience‑appropriate documents.

Scientific Writing

Write and edit scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.

Translate complex data analyses and research findings into clear, accurate scientific narratives.

Refine manuscript structure, messaging, and clarity in collaboration with investigators.

Prepare abstracts, poster summaries, and scientific text as needed.

Stakeholder & Progress Communication

Prepare written materials summarizing GEMINI’s progress, outputs, and impact for internal and external stakeholders.

Develop reports, briefings, summaries, and updates for collaborators, partners, and institutional leadership.

Create narrative materials that communicate GEMINI’s contributions to health system research and improvement.

Collaboration & Project Support

Gather inputs from scientists, analysts, and leadership to synthesize complex information across disciplines.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams within GEMINI and Unity Health to align messaging.

Manage multiple writing projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a part‑time environment.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in health, life sciences, public health, or related field (PhD preferred).

3–5 years of experience in scientific writing, research communications, proposal development, or related roles.

Demonstrated experience writing for diverse audiences including scientific, governmental, funders, collaborators, and institutional stakeholders.

Proven experience preparing manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals.

Ability to synthesize complex scientific or technical information into clear, compelling narratives.

Exceptional English written communication skills with strong attention to structure, clarity, and narrative flow.

Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple timelines, particularly in a part‑time setting.

Experience working with scientists, senior leadership, and cross‑functional teams.

Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
