Full job description
At Stellar, we aim to build a studio where people actually want to work. We face the inevitable ups and downs of production as a truly supportive and connected team, prioritizing open communication over anyone working in isolation. We value honesty, creativity, and looking out for one another.
The Opportunity:
We are expanding our team and looking for talented Modeling Artists at the Junior, Mid, and Senior levels to join us on a premium streaming series for Marvel Animation.
In this role, you will be bringing wildly creative designs to life. Whether you are building characters, sprawling sets, vehicles, or organic hard-surface props, you are the artist who translates 2D brilliance into optimized 3D reality. This role requires an incredible eye for detail, a deep understanding of form, and a mastery of Maya.
In this role, success looks like:
Asset Creation & Optimization:
- Confidently work from production designs to create a wide variety of digital assets, including characters, sets, props, vehicles, and both organic and hard-surface elements.
- Critically analyze pre-viz and production designs to create highly optimized assets that perfectly balance aesthetic beauty with the technical requirements of the pipeline.
- Bring a passion and drive to elevate the show's modeling standards to the highest creative and technical level possible.
Technical Problem Solving & Pipeline:
- Utilize your hands-on, deep knowledge of Maya tools to work efficiently and cleanly.
- Collaborate closely with downstream departments (Rigging, Surfacing) to proactively troubleshoot and solve potential problems early in the pipeline before they become bottlenecks.
Collaboration & Accountability:
- Act as a self-motivated, task-driven professional who consistently meets team and production deadlines.
- Be a collaborative team player who communicates openly and works well with Supervisors and Team Leads. (Seniors will be expected to help mentor and guide Junior artists).
- Actively participate in team, departmental, and production meetings or screenings.
The Requirements
Must-Haves:
- Experience (Choose your level):
- Junior: 1–2+ years of production experience. You have a solid grasp of Maya, a strong portfolio, and are eager to learn and grow.
- Mid-Level: 3–5+ years of production experience. You can hit the ground running, tackle complex assets, and require minimal supervision.
- Senior: 5+ years of production experience. You are an expert at optimizing the most complex hero assets, anticipating pipeline bottlenecks, and are comfortable mentoring junior artists.
- Artistic Eye: A keen eye for form, shape, and texture, paired with flexible, "outside-the-box" creative thinking.
- Core Tools: A solid understanding and working experience with Maya, ZBrush, and Photoshop.
- Mindset: A learning-centered attitude and a passion for strong design and technical execution.
- Eligibility: Legally eligible to work in British Columbia, Canada.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience or understanding of additional software, including Substance Painter, Substance Designer, Blender, or Redshift.
- Comfort working within a Linux operating system.
Why Join Stellar?
- Flexible Environment: We offer a flexible hybrid schedule that will vary with project and team requirements.
- Comprehensive Benefits: Extended health benefits.
- Growth: Professional development support to help you stay ahead of tech and creative trends.
- Culture: A collaborative, ego-free environment where technical expertise fuels creative magic.
At Stellar Creative Lab, we believe diversity and inclusion are key to creativity and collaboration. We’re committed to building a supportive, open, and diverse community where everyone can thrive. We're always looking for ways to improve accessibility, so feel free to share any feedback or suggestions with us.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, though priority will be given to BC Residents, Canadians and Canadian Permanent Residents.
