Full job description

The Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA) serves as a voluntary professional body representing physicians across Saskatchewan, with membership comprising over 90 percent of the province’s physicians. The SMA also offers membership for medical students and residents undertaking their training within Saskatchewan.

As the unified voice of the medical profession in the province, the SMA advocates on behalf of its members and engages in negotiations for physicians operating under fee-for-service, salaried, and alternative payment models.

The Communications Specialist, Digital Content & Storytelling, brings the work and voices of Saskatchewan’s physicians to life through engaging digital content. This role creates compelling stories and multimedia content that support advocacy priorities and connect with key audiences across social and digital channels.

This is a hands-on production role focused on creative execution, with an emphasis on storytelling, video and audience engagement.

This position is based on-site at our office in Saskatoon, SK, with a voluntary hybrid work option allowing remote work from home up to 2 out of 5 days per week subject to approval under our Hybrid Work Arrangement policy.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Email and Direct Communications

  • Develop, format and distribute high-volume email communications using email marketing platforms, ensuring accuracy, clarity and alignment with organizational priorities
  • Manage distribution lists and audience segmentation to support targeted and effective communication
  • Monitor email performance metrics and apply insights to improve engagement

2. Digital Content Creation

  • Plan, create and publish content for social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc., using content calendars and management tools
  • Shoot and edit short-form video (primarily mobile) for social and web
  • Capture basic photography and short interviews to support storytelling
  • Write engaging captions and adapt content for different platforms


3. Storytelling & Content Development

  • Develop compelling stories about physicians and health care
  • Produce written and multimedia content for website, campaigns and publications
  • Work with internal teams to translate initiatives into audience-friendly content
  • Develop content that engages both member and public audiences
  • Identify opportunities to proactively communicate key issues, stories and priorities

4. Website Management

  • Maintain and update website content, ensuring accuracy, accessibility and usability
  • Support improvements to user experience and content organization


5. Campaign & Brand Support

  • Execute communications campaigns
  • Ensure content aligns with SMA brand and visual identity
  • Assist with creation of simple graphics or templated materials


6. Analytics & Continuous Improvement

  • Track performance of digital content and provide basic insights
  • Adjust content approaches based on engagement trends

7. Other

  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager, Communications

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in communications, marketing, digital media or related field
  • >3 years of relevant experience in digital communications
  • Demonstrated experience creating social media video content (portfolio required)
  • Experience managing social media accounts and websites

Salary:

$70,298 - $95,109 per annum commensurate with experience.
