Full job description

Bring your energy to Aggreko as a Associate General Counsel- Canada based in Toronto. You’ll provide strategic legal support across the North American operations while driving risk mitigation and commercial value. This role will work closely with the VP of Legal and business teams to ensure legal compliance, contract strength, and business alignment.

What you’ll do as Associate General Counsel- Canada :

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements with customers and vendors
  • Collaborate with sector sales teams to establish clearly defined customer contract needs that are strategically aligned with and help to execute on territory sales plans
  • Draft white papers in collaboration with sales team when necessary to obtain corporate approval on legal and commercial risks
  • Advise business units, executive leaders on commercial & legal risks
  • Deliver internal training on commercial and risk management principles, ethics, anti-bribery.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of risk management policies
  • Benchmark and report on commercial trends, contractual liability & exposure, cost recovery/avoidance mechanisms, and other risk management best practices
  • Understand insurance coverages, exclusions and limitations, as well as how they interact with and meet our contractual obligations.
  • Engage and manage outside counsel, audit legal bills, analyze bankruptcy claims, and litigation defense.
  • Partner with the HR department in addressing employment and other HR-related issues.
  • Work closely with insurer, TPA and broker in managing litigation and insurance claims.
  • Manage and preserve the company’s intellectual property

You are:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • A licensed member in good standing of the law society in the province or territory where the attorney will be practicing
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commercial transactional law, drafting and negotiating simple and complex contracts, preferably in an in-house legal department
  • Strong knowledge of contract law, UCC, creditors’ rights & bankruptcy, and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Ability to handle a high-volume transactional workload
  • Ability to succinctly and professionally provide sound legal advice and commercial solutions in a timely manner to all levels of the business
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Oral and written fluency in Québec French (français québécois).
